- 18.
On the day of the trial, Frank took the day off
to see me.
He said that he was going to watch the trial,
and if I embarrassed myself, he’d fire me.
I didn’t bother to argue.
The defense went smoothly.
The family had to pay a big fine.
Summer started yelling at me.
“You did this on purpose! You can’t stand
that Nick is serious about me! You evil old woman!”
“Summer, that’s enough.”
Nick stopped her. “Aren’t you done ruining
your reputation?”
She threw her bag and ran off.
I didn’t care.
I started to leave.
But Nick stopped me.
“Lindsey, wait.”
He asked, “Is there anything that we can do?”
I laughed: “What could we do?”
“Summer wasn’t the cause, just the catalyst.”
“Our relationship was falling apart.”
Nick thought about it and said: “But
marriages are like that.”
“Maybe.” I didn’t argue. “Without Summer, I
might’ve accepted it.”
“You can still love.”
“You just don’t love me.”
Frank walked over and put his arm around
- me.
“You got that right.”
I waved goodbye to Nick and left.
“Thanks for helping with the act. Great
acting, want to do it again?”
Frank straightened his clothes.
“I don’t mind helping, but you have to
remember-”
Frank smiled.
“When you get to my level, you can date
freely.”
No wonder he and Nick were rivals.
The first thing Frank did was break up with
- me.
He climbed the ladder, and didn’t look back.
“I hope you take me with you on your next project.”
-The End-
