Chapter 8 She’s Not My Lover
Synthia couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“Why should I care whether you’re sad or not?” she asked.
Joslyn was surprised to see Synthia provoke her arrogantly, but she soon realized why.
“I got it. Dary needs you for the surgery, so you think you can act however you want. Is that it?” she sneered, thinking she had seen through Synthia. “But you’re not gonna take the care. I’m warning you.”
“Oh?” Synthia stared at her. “Why? The patient is so important to Mr. Raymond. Could it be that you don’t wanna see her get treated?”
Joslyn was about to nod.
But then she realized she shouldn’t–if she did, and Darion knew about
it, she’d be doomed.
She didn’t dare to mess with him.
“You got me wrong, Dr. Duffy. It’s not why I’m here anyway.” She changed the subject. “Dr. Duffy, you’re so young and pretty. Are you seeing someone? If you’re still single, I’m happy to set you up with a few guys. What’s your type?”
Synthia marveled at the quick change in Joslyn’s attitude.
“Maybe Dary?” Joslyn pressed on. “He’s so outstanding and rich. Hardly any woman could say no to him, yeah?”

Chapter 11 She’s Not My Loves
Synthia nodded with a smile. “Of course. As you said, he’s nothing but outstanding and rich. As a woman, why wouldn’t I fall for him?”
She said this just to piss Joslyn off.
It was the first time she had met Joslyn today, yet Joslyn kept plotting against her. She wouldn’t even put up with Darion, and she certainly wouldn’t take crap from Joslyn.
“Dary? How long have you been standing there?” Suddenly, Joslyn looked behind Synthia. Her expression changed drastically, and even her voice trembled.
Not again.
Synthia felt speechless, figuring Joslyn was the biggest drama queen she had ever met.
She rolled her eyes and was about to speak when a teasing voice rang out behind her. “Outstanding and rich?”
Darion?
Synthia turned around abruptly and collided straight into him.
It happened so suddenly that she was caught off guard. She lost her balance and fell backward, and luckily, he acted quickly enough to catch her waist.
She ended up in his arms as the scent of jasmine reached her nose.
Looking down at her with a scrutinizing gaze, Darion inexplicitly felt a bit pleased. “Dr. Duffy, do you mean it?”
Synthia was stunned for a few seconds.
Chapter B She’s Not My Lover
Then she pushed him away and pulled a long face. “Of course not.”
“Really?” He chuckled. “Then explain to me. What did you mean? Have you been playing hard to get all this time?”
Synthia thought, “He’s crazy!
“I regret it so much.
“If I had known he was behind me, I would never have said that.”
“Dr. Duffy, are you bothered by the fact that Dary is a divorced man?” Joslyn said deliberately. “You can’t blame him. His ex–wife is a small- towner and has never seen the world. She’s not good enough for him at all. So, the divorce is a good thing for him. Don’t judge him because of that.”
Since Synthia and Darion had a secret marriage, only a few people knew about it.
Joslyn was one of them..
This fact alone was self–explanatory.
Synthia wondered how Joslyn would react when knowing she was that small–towner who had never seen the world.
She looked at Darion. “Mr. Raymond, is that how you think of your ex- wife, too?”
Darion didn’t refute Joslyn’s words.
Did it mean he agreed with refuted Joslyn?
Maybe he did. After all, to Darion, his ex–wife was just a bumpkin who definitely didn’t deserve the title.
Chapter 1 Cha
“She and I weren’t cut out for each other,” Darion said calmly. “The divorce was the best for both of us.”
He had never cared about his ex–wife, whom he had never met. Back then, his grandmother had been in poor health and forced him to marry her, or he would never have agreed to marry her.
They didn’t love each other, so being forced to stay together wasn’t enough for either of them.
Synthia sneered inwardly.
She thought, “The best for both of us?
“Has he ever asked about my opinion? He never bothered to see me during those three years, let alone try to know more about me. And he jumped to the conclusion that we weren’t cut out for each other? That’s rich.”
“I guess,” she scoffed. “I hope you won’t regret it, Mr. Raymond.”
She prayed that he and his unforgettable love could stay together forever.
After saying this, she turned to stride out.
But Darion caught her wrist in the next second, which made her frown. She shook his hand away, looking displeased. Why couldn’t he leave her alone?
“Please behave yourself, Mr. Raymond,” she said coldly.
“Are you mad?” Darion stared at her intently. Then he asked word by word, “Because I was married once?”
Synthia felt momentarily speechless.
10:
“Stop overthinking it, Mr. Raymond. Why should I give a damn. whether you’re married or not?” she said. “I just feel sorry for your ex- wife. You’re already divorced, yet your lover still won’t stop
badmouthing her.”
His lover?
Was she referring to Joslyn?
Not wanting to be misunderstood, Darion explained, “She’s not my lover. She’s…”
“Not interested, Mr. Raymond,” Synthia interrupted him angrily. “Besides, I’m not the one you owe an explanation to. It’s your ex–wife.”
Looking at him, she thought, “I wasn’t interested in what he did or who he defended. But the fact remains–the divorce hasn’t been finalized. And here he is, defending his love so eagerly?
“She’s not his lover?
“We were married for three years. What was I for those three years?”
Darion explained, “We got married because we were forced to. Besides, I made it up to her financially after the divorce. We don’t owe each other anything. I don’t owe an explanation to someone I have no feelings for.”
Synthia was even more furious, thinking, “We don’t owe each other anything?
“To him right now, I’m just a doctor whom he has met only once, and he’s here explaining to me. But he doesn’t feel the need to explain to his ex–wife?
“What a complete piece of crap!”

“Save it, Mr. Raymond. As I said, I’m not interested.” An inexplicable fury surged within her, and she turned to leave, not wanting to stay here for another second.
Darion was lost in thought as he stared at Synthia’s retreating figure.
ன.
He thought, “She hates me.
“Why?
“Because I’m divorced?”
“I’m sorry, Dary.” Joslyn said in a fawning tone, worrying he’d be mad at her. “I didn’t mean to. I was just worried that she might be bothered by the fact that you were married once.”
Darion rubbed the bridge of his nose with his slender fingers. “Oh, really? You didn’t deliberately tell her about my marriage?”
Did Joslyn really think he was a fool?
If he were unable to see through her tricks, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
“Dary, I…” Joslyn explained, terrified.
“Put your lame tricks and schemes away. I don’t wanna see such things happen again,” he warned. “Otherwise… you know the consequences.”
Joslyn froze. Then she looked up at him in great disbelief. “Dary, don’t you think
you care about Dr. Duffy way too much?”
She was panicking inwardly.
Women tended to have perfect instincts. She had been wary the second she saw Synthia, and now Darion was warning her for Synthia’s sake.

Of course, it set off her alarm bells.
Darion didn’t answer.
He didn’t think he needed to.
He indeed cared about Synthia, but it was merely because she was the
one who was supposed to complete that surgery. It had nothing to do with who she was.
“You’re not to see her again before the surgery,” he ordered.
