Chapter 4 Turn Him Down
Synthia thought, “Any terms?
“Darion is so devoted to his lover.
“His love for her is so cheesy and annoys me.
“I’m upset, and it’s not because I love him. It’s just… he’s such a douchebag. Did it ever occur to him that he was married when he was doing all those things for her? I was his wife back then. Did he ever think about how I would feel?
“What did he take me for?
“I know he didn’t love me, but he didn’t have to insult me like this.
“No wonder he came back as soon as Wilson spread the word about my comeback. He came back to invite me to operate on her.
“What if he knows one day that the person he’s been looking searching for worldwide is his ex–wife? How will he react?
“He sickens me.”
Darion had been staring at her.
Perhaps it was all in his head, but he seemed to have seen contempt and indifference in her eyes.
She sneered and said sarcastically, “Mr. Raymond, you’ll stop at nothing just to save her, huh?”
“Yes. You’re right, Dr. Duffy,” Eugene said, standing aside, not

detecting the mockery in her tone. “Mr. Raymond has been going all out to find you. He spent three years abroad looking for you, and when we learned about your comeback last week, we came back to the country at once. As long as you agree to perform, you can have as much money as you want.”
Eugene wanted to explain on Darion’s behalf.
But he wasn’t helping at all.
Instead, his words were solid proof that Darion had cheated on Synthia.
“As much money as I want? Gosh, Mr. Raymond, you really love her deeply, don’t you?” Synthia gritted her teeth, not wanting to waste any more time dwelling on it. “But not everyone in this world will do anything just for money. I can’t operate unless I meet the patient in person. Get it?”
She deliberately emphasized the word “patient“.
She was a doctor, and she took her ethics seriously. She must meet her patients and know their actual condition before making any decisions.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have met with his ex–husband’s lover at all.
“I know her condition well.” Darion keenly sensed the coldness in her tone but didn’t mind. He said, “Whatever you wanna know, you can ask me. I can answer for her.”
Answer for her?
Synthia immediately understood what he meant. In other words, over the past three years, he had totally neglected her, his lawful wife, while attending to his lover utterly attentively.

She thought, “You piece of shit. You touched a nerve.”
She wanted to beat Darion up to vent her anger, but she didn’t want. him to know who she really was, and if she hurt her hand, it’d seem like an unnecessary cost.
“Sorry.” She pulled out a fake smile. “I’m gonna have to turn you down.”
With that, she turned to leave.
The sight of him irritated her so much.
Eugene panicked the second Synthia walked away.
Swallowing his saliva, he said, “Mr. Raymond, Dr. Duffy’s gone. Do you want me to go after her and talk to her? Well… Speaking of which, apart from Ms. Aguirre, why wouldn’t you let anyone else meet… her?”
He had worked for Darion for years and had always known there was a special patient staying at the Raymond Hospital. But Darion was the only one who knew who that patient was.
Darion got married three years ago.
So, the patient definitely wasn’t his wife.
He couldn’t help but be curious, but he didn’t dare to ask for fear of upsetting Darion.
Darion, however, didn’t say anything. He looked up at Synthia’s retreating figure, his eyes deep. Meanwhile, he thought, “I’m positive that she doesn’t like me. But why?
“I helped her today. Though I had a purpose, it didn’t change the fact

that I shielded her from the bottle.
“Why did she turn me down?
“I’ve got plenty of ways to force her to change her mind, but I won’t compel her to do anything she doesn’t want to.
“What I want is for her to voluntarily agree to perform the surgery.”
He looked away and strode out of the hospital. “Tell Joslyn to wait at the hospital early next morning.”
Eugene nodded, not daring to ask why. “OK, Mr. Raymond. I’m on it.”
Then Darion ordered, “Go back to Greystone Heights.”
Greystone Heights was a famous upscale residential area in Southdale with astonishing house prices. After coming back to the country, Darion had been staying in a penthouse at Greystone Heights instead of going back to his family’s home or the Raymond’s villa.
“Alright, Mr. Raymond.”
Meanwhile, Synthia, who had left, was texting Nicole Sweeney, her bestie, complaining about her encounter with Darion. She was genuinely surprised at how big a jerk he was.
Nicole replied almost immediately.
“Fuck me! Are you for real? Babe, are you sure that scumbag cheated on you?”
What Synthia and Darion had was a secret marriage. She had told Nicole about getting married but left the part that her husband was Darion, the richest man in Southdale.
Nicole, ever the sensible, had never asked.
Soon, Nicole texted her again, “Babe, forget about that piece of shit. I’ll take care of you!”
Synthia felt speechless for a second.
What a great friend!
A few seconds later, Nicole’s next message came through.
“Bad news, babe. I have a competitor now. You know Darion, the richest man in town, right? Fuck! What’s he thinking? He’s actually started his own live–streaming company and signed with a streamer to challenge me for the top streamer spot. They’ve already made an official announcement. Have you seen it?”
The richest man in town?
Darion?
How come he was everywhere?
Synthia wasn’t a fan of live streaming.
On the contrary, Nicole was a heavy hitter in the live–streaming industry. She had ridden the live–streaming wave, established a company from scratch, and was now a big shot in the industry. So, she had access to first–hand information whenever something happened.
Synthia took a deep breath and replied, “No. What’s going on?”
Nicole texted, “See for yourself.”
In the next second, she sent Synthia a short video, which was news about Vantedge Capital expanding its business into the live–streaming

industry.
Synthia, puzzled, wasn’t planning on clicking on it.
But then Nicole texted her again.
“I know you’re not interested, but rumor has it that Vantedge Capital’s rising star is Darion’s lover!”
Synthia was dumbfounded.
She thought, “Darion’s lover?
“Another one?
“How many lovers does that douchebag have?”
She couldn’t help but click on the video.
It wasn’t long, but it had several well–framed shots of the company’s newly onboarded streamer as well as a brief introduction about her, including her historical achievements.
She had never seen the streamer before and was certain this wasn’t the girl Darion wanted her to operate on.
The streamer’s ruddy complexion suggested that she was in perfect health.
Just then, Nicole called her.
“What to do, babe? I know I’m talented, but how am I supposed to compete with those with money?” She sounded so aggrieved. “Babe, the battle is just days away. I’m so down. Let’s hang out and party to celebrate that you finally are free and single again!”

Synthia felt a bit helpless.
But she said yes anyway. Nicole had been busy, and it had been ages since they last met.
She hung up and headed to Keshawn’s office.
She knocked on the door, and it was pulled open in the next second. Upon seeing her, Manuel beamed. “Hello, Dr. Duffy! Come in here. Mr. Bonilla and I have been waiting for you for so long. Are you seeing anyone? I have a nephew who’s in his prime years…”
“Manuel, rein in a little. You’re gonna scare Synthia away.” Keshawn stood up and walked over to Synthia with a warm smile. “Synthia, actually, I have a nephew, too…” He cleared his throat and then continued, “Well, that’s not important. What I wanna know is–do you
know Dr. Hebert?”
“Dr. Hebert?” Synthia failed to react.
Keshawn rubbed his hands. “That’s right. Dr. Hebert, the renowned neurosurgeon as well as the director of Sanovita Hospital. He heard you’ve joined us and wants to bring his team over tomorrow for some on–site filming. Are you OK with it?”
Dr. Hebert?
Synthia thought about it, and the name rang a bell.
About four years ago, Bryan had taken on an extremely complex brain surgery. He had asked Synthia’s teacher for help, who said he was too old and recommended her. Finally, she became Bryan’s first assistant and helped him complete the procedure.
“Yeah. OK.” Synthia scratched her head and nodded without much thought.
