Chapter 7
When it came to Kyle’s remorse, I only had one thing to say in my heart:
Serves him right.
I handed over full responsibility for the project follow–up to my Beta, Sasha.
Instead, I shifted my energy back to the pack. My parents had officially passed leadership to me and I was now the Alpha of our pack.
When there was decision Sasha wasn’t sure about, I’d step in to advise, but I still tried my best to avoid any direct contact with Kyle.
I knew exactly what he was scheming.
But betrayal? Once it happened the first time, there was never a second chance.
Sasha ended up flying back to the homeland to handle the project and successfully secured the deal. She also brought back another piece of news,
“Alpha asked me to let you know he’s broken the mate bond with Claire.”
I had already suspected something when Claire started planting her people in Kyle’s company.
What I didn’t expect was how fast it would all fall apart. Even Summer was surprised when I told her in the message.
“I just heard about it too,” she said. “How are you getting info faster than I am?”
I curled my lips slightly. “We got in touch again through the project. He didn’t even tell me himself but just sent the message through my beta.”
Summer clicked her tongue and picked up the rant without missing a beat.
“Classic. Everyone can see he’s trying to worm his way back. But seriously, why won’t this guy just vanish already? What does he think you are, his backup plan? Disgusting.”
why the
“But do you even know why they broke the mate bond?” she went on.
“Claire played him like a fiddle. After she rejected him the first time, she left the pack and sealed the mate bond with another pack’s Alpha. Then she got kicked out by her stepson, tried to sue for inheritance and lost. That’s when she slithered back to the pack and came crawling back to Kyle.”

“When Luna Lily found out, she was so angry her hands were shaking. She didn’t even say anything, just threw the photos right in Kyle’s face. And you should’ve seen his face, as dark as thunder.”
“Claire already pulled plenty of shady stunts after bonding with Kyle, and their relationship had. been ice–cold for a while. Once this blew up, Kyle had someone draft the bond–breaking deal the very next day.”
“They split that cleanly. I remember Kyle had been ready to give up his entire inheritance to be with her back then. Barely a year into their mate bond and he’s breaking the mate bond. Looking back on how smug he was, I bet even he thinks he was an idiot.”
I suddenly remembered Kyle once telling me, “Claire’s changed,” and I just found it laughable.
Maybe Claire hadn’t changed at all. She just wasn’t the person he had imagined her to be.
The novelty had faded, and only then did true love begin to surface.
Other than some project–related interactions, Kyle and I never spoke again.
Even his emails and friend requests–I ignored them like they didn’t exist.
Kyle was always good at imagining a perfect partner to fall in love with..
Before, it was Claire. Now, I was probably the new fantasy.
Let him be. I had long moved on and built a new life for myself.
As for Kyle, he was nothing more than a tired old cliche, not worth mentioning.
It wasn’t until Summer was preparing to seal her mate bond that I returned to Sableford for the first time in years.
And this time, I brought someone else with me–my daughter, Katie.
My third mate was the Lycan King.
He would’ve accompanied me to Summer’s bonding ceremony if he hadn’t been attending a Lycan meeting with other Lycans at the time.
After catching up with Summer, Katie asked if she could go play in the children’s area at the nearby
mall.
Since she didn’t have any local playmates, I nodded and took her there.

Katie was clearly excited, nearly skipping the whole way.
I was in heels and had to jog after her, a bit out of breath.
Then, just as we turned a corner, Katie ran straight into someone.
I hurried forward to check on her and quickly apologized to the person she bumped into.
“I’m so sorry, she’s just a kid. I hope she didn’t hurt you.”
“Heather?”
The voice sounded both surprised and oddly familiar.
I looked up.
Kyle.
To be honest, I didn’t recognize him until I got a closer look.
Then I suddenly remembered this mall was one of his family’s businesses. It wasn’t strange for him to be here.
His posture and presence had both dulled. He looked worn out, like someone who’d just been laid off in their prime and didn’t know what came next.
He was nothing like the radiant man I remembered.
Still, when he saw me, a faint trace of joy appeared on his face. He curved his lips into a small smile.
“It’s been a long time. This is…?”
“My daughter. Katie.”
