Chapter 3
I kept smiling and shook my head, completely unbothered.
I gestured for one of the pack members nearby to show her to her seat.
“Idiot. I’ve basically spelled it out. Can’t she tell I’m here to cause trouble?”
As soon as Claire brushed past us, Summer couldn’t hold back her annoyance.
“Did you see how smug she looked? Ugh, I can’t stand her.”
I shrugged.
“She thinks I’m the joke here. Kyle’s clearly ready for her to crash the ceremony, after all. That way, he gets to play the ‘star–crossed lovers finally reunited‘ card, and right in front of me, he can pressure the blood stone pack into recognizing her.”
The bonding ceremony venue wasn’t far from the airport. By the time I was seated in the departure lounge, the ceremony hadn’t even started yet.
I kept my eyes locked on the time displayed on my phone, waiting for the farce to begin.
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
My phone vibrated nonstop. Summer excitedly flooded my screen with live updates.
“Heather! She really did it! She actually crashed the ceremony!”
“Unbelievable. Cheating and still acting like they’re Romeo and Juliet. Shameless.”
The ceremony had only just begun, barely five minutes in when Summer sent me a video from the
scene.
According to the schedule, after Kyle went up on stage, his beta, Devon, was supposed to deliver a sappy speech about love and devotion. Then it would be time for the bride to make her entrance.
But Claire had timed it perfectly.
Wearing the same ceremonial welcome gown as the bride, Claire walked straight up, snatched the microphone from Devon, and began her speech.
Despite the murmuring and gasps from the guests, she launched into a dramatic declaration of love.

Her words were so bold, so shameless, that Kyle’s eyes turned red with emotion.
“Kyle, will you come with me?”
The guest seating erupted into chaos. Taking the groom away on the day of his bonding ceremony? That was the very definition of crashing the bonding ceremony.
What made it worse was that Kyle nodded, looked genuinely moved as he walked over to Claire, reached for her hand, and interlocked their fingers.
“I will.”
Claire’s inflated ego must’ve been soaring by now.
She even had the nerve to turn toward the closed doors where the bride was supposed to enter and
make a speech, like she’d just won an award..
She went on about how she knew I liked Kyle, but insisted that Kyle loved her most. She hoped I
would let them have their happy ending.
In the video, Kyle was wearing a pair of sneakers that clashed horribly with his tailored suit.
Claire, still holding the mic, couldn’t hide the smug triumph radiating from her eyes.
She probably couldn’t wait to see me break down. She had even planned out her fake sympathy.
“I just hope Heather will give us her blessing.”
“Heather?”
And just like that, the air grew awkward.
Because the person they were hoping to humiliate wasn’t even there.
Without the one being “defeated,” this so–called triumphant love story looked more like a clown
show.
“Heather?”
“Heather?”
Claire called my name again and again, but no one answered until Devon finally walked over and pulled open the grand ceremonial doors.

There was no one behind them. Only a discarded white veil lay on the floor, an empty symbol of the missing bride.
The crowd erupted into a frenzy. Someone finally shouted.
“Holy shit. Did the bride just ditch the bonding ceremony?!”
