Chapter 1
Ever since I came of age and got my wolf, I had one special ability: mind reading.
I could hear the thoughts of those who didn’t love me.
Thanks to this gift, I could instantly tell whether someone’s love was real or fake.
It made things easy.
I could walk away from toxic friendships without hesitation, and even stay calm and unbothered
when my long–time crush finally confessed to me.
I could even use it to buy the juiciest, sweetest watermelon, simply by reading the vendor’s
thoughts.
Because every single one of their inner voices came through loud and clear.
Thus, to avoid being overwhelmed by the constant noise, I usually avoided eye contact with strangers during daily life.
But the first time I met Kyle; the world went silent.
It was so quiet that all I could hear were our voices, clear and uninterrupted.
“Hi, mind if I introduce myself?”
No thoughts.
When our eyes met, I couldn’t hear a single thing from Kyle’s mind.
“Hi,” I responded.
While Kyle was pursuing me, the voices around me felt simple and
I believed he loved me.
So we fell in love, dated, and talked about bonding.
For two whole years, I never once heard a single thought from him.
But on the eve of our bonding ceremony, I suddenly could.
Because of the ceremony, Kyle had been unusually busy lately.

pure.

He was the heir to the blood stone pack, and he had recently taken over as Alpha.
At the same time, he was running his father’s financial company in the human world.
With the bonding ceremony approaching, there were countless things to handle, especially over the
past two months.
As the daughter of a small pack’s Alpha, I was always an independent and self–reliant she–wolf. I
also respected Kyle’s career, so I didn’t push for time together.
Naturally, our meetups had become rare.
But today, we were finalizing our outfits. I thought it would be one of the few moments we’d get to
spend alone, and just the thought of it made my heart feel warm and full.
When I arrived at the studio on time, Kyle was already there, trying on shoes.
He turned slightly to speak to the staff, then walked outside with his phone in hand, still
mid–conversation, his tone laced with calm reassurance.
I understood how busy he was. Managing both a pack and a company wasn’t easy, and besides, he wasn’t the only heir to the blood stone pack.
We exchanged a knowing glance. But then, out of nowhere, I heard Kyle’s voice in my head..
“Claire said she’s going to crash the bonding ceremony tomorrow. Better wear sneakers so it’s
easier to run.”
Claire? Crash the bonding ceremony?
I froze.
My eyes locked on his mouth to confirm it was his thoughts. I suddenly didn’t know how to react.
Even though it was scorching hot outside, a chill swept through me, crawling across my skin, paralyzing me.
I could hear his thoughts now. I didn’t need anyone to tell me what that meant.
From the corner of my eye, I noticed a staff member following Kyle’s instructions, placing a pair of lightweight sneakers with his bonding ceremony outfit.
Kyle nodded at me, then turned to leave.

That was our usual rhythm. He must’ve had something important to handle.
But those thoughts I’d just heard weren’t fake. I’d never misheard a single one before.
My body moved on its own. I couldn’t stop myself from chasing after him. I couldn’t believe it as I hurriedly called out,
“Kyle?”
I was desperate to hear more. I had to know what my so–called fiancé, my supposed mate, was really thinking.
Why had he suddenly fallen out of love right before the bonding ceremony?
My call made Kyle pause just as he was about to get into the back seat, but only for a moment. He turned back and quickly explained, then floored the gas and drove off:
“Sorry, something urgent came up with the pack. I have to go.”
He was lying.
Because what he was really thinking was:
“I can tell from Claire’s voice on the phone she’s pissed. If I don’t go calm her down, I won’t be allowed home tonight.”
I’d never been the kind of woman to spiral into self–pity.
Instead of sitting around and overthinking, I decided to confront the truth head–on.
So I found an excuse to secretly meet up with Kyle’s beta, and used my mind–reading ability to dig for more truth.
