Chapter 8
The day after Adelia went abroad, Gwen couldn’t wait to have the
servants change all the curtains and carpets in the house to the styles she liked.
In the evening, Ethan walked into the house, and his eyes suddenly froze
A few servants were carrying Adelia’s rosewood desk out of her study, and her usual pen and books were still on it.
“What are you doing?” The deep, cold voice froze the whole living room in an instant.
The servants froze and quickly explained, “Sir, Ms. Gwen said this room had good lighting and wanted to turn it into a studio…”
Ethan’s eyes darkened, and his voice turned cold: “Turn it into a studio? What if Adelia came back?”
The servants lowered their heads. No one dared to answer.
These days, Gwen had already secretly had them throw away a lot of Adelia’s stuff.
Everyone knew why she did that.
Just as the atmosphere was getting tense, a gentle voice came from behind.
“Ethan, don’t blame them, I told them to do it.” Gwen slowly moved closer in her wheelchair, her pale face looking a bit fragile.
She looked up at him, a bit of pleading in her eyes: “I just wanted to paint

a few more pictures in my last days. When Lia comes back, I’ll give the room back to her right away, okay?”
Ethan looked down at her, his eyes dark and hard to read.
If it was before, he would never have let anyone touch Adelia’s stuff.
But thinking of Adelia setting fire to Gwen’s art show, I still softened for
a moment.
He raised his hand to signal the servant, “Pack up all of Adelia’s personal things from the study and put them in storage for now.”
A smile instantly appeared on Gwen’s face. She gently grabbed his sleeve with her fingertips: “Ethan, you were so good to me.”
Ethan lowered his eyes, his long fingers brushing through her hair, gentle but keeping a bit of distance. “I never broke a promise.”
His voice was low and calm, like he was stating a fact.
He would walk the rest of the way with her, but that was it.
Gwen’s eyes flickered a little, and she looked up into his deep eyes.
She knew she wanted more than just Ethan’s short company.
She wanted every moment of the rest of his life.

The night was dark, and the rain was pattering.
Gwen held a cup of warm ginger tea and gently pushed open Ethan’s study door.

said softly, putting the cup by Ethan’s hand, her fingertips brushing lightly over the back of his hand.

Ethan didn’t think much and finished the ginger tea in one go.
Gwen sat on the couch nearby, holding a book, but her eyes kept drifting to the man’s cold, sharp features.
Even though she had already coaxed Ethan into getting a marriage certificate with her.
But once it was found out that she didn’t have a terminal illness, Ethan would definitely get suspicious.
She had to get pregnant with his baby as soon as possible.
Only this way could you really tie him down.
Soon, Ethan started to feel a bit unwell.
He took off his glasses, pressed his knuckles to his temple, and tried to push down that uncontrollable restlessness.
“Not feeling well?” Gwen took the chance to get closer, her cold fingers touching b
burning neck.
Ethan looked at Gwen, and for some reason, Adelia’s face appeared in his mind.
He suddenly grabbed her wrist, dark danger swirling in his deep eyes, his breath hot: “What did you put in the ginger tea?“.
Gwen fell into Ethan’s arms and kissed him desperately, “I don’t have much time left, can you… satisfy me one last time?”
Ethan’s dark eyes were deep. “Are you crazy?”

Gwen held Ethan’s face, her gaze growing deeper and deeper, “Ethan, don’t turn me down.”
Under the effect of the medicine, Ethan’s body got hotter and hotter.
He grabbed Gwen by the waist and pinned her to the desk, papers scattering all over the floor.

When she bent down, the shadow totally covered her.
“Gwen, you really…”
The gritted–teeth ending faded away in the tangled breaths.
Gwen hugged Ethan tightly, her eyes shining with excitement.
She thought, this time, she was finally going to completely replace Adelia.

The next day, Ethan woke up from a deep sleep.
The messy sheets were all bunched up, and the air was filled with that hazy vibe after passion.
Last night’s wild time with Gwen was still vivid, but in my dreams, what kept haunting me was Adelia’s resolute back.
She stood in the dawn light with her suitcase, and no matter how he called out, she just wouldn’t look back.
Ethan yanked off the sheet in frustration, but a pair of soft arms wrapped around his waist.
“Don’t go…” Gwen’s sleepy voice sounded sweet and tempting.

Ethan’s eyes fell on Gwen’s face.
Her face looked like a peach blossom, and her breathing was steady.
There wasn’t even a hint of the sickness you’d expect from someone with a terminal illness.
