Half a year later, Vaughn held a big wedding for Adelia.
New York’s most luxurious estate was covered in white roses, and sunlight flowed between the champagne towers.
Adelia stood in front of the full–length mirror in the dressing room, looking at herself in the white wedding dress, and it felt like a lifetime
ago.
Half a year ago, after she finished her checkup, she sat in the hospital hallway for a whole hour.
During that hour, she thought about a lot.
For example, the Anderson family needed an heir, but she couldn’t give them one.
For example, her relationship with Vaughn wasn’t that deep, so it wouldn’t hurt to cut her losses in time.
She didn’t snap out of it until Vaughn called.
“Where are you now?” Vaughn’s voice came through the receiver, as calm
as ever.
“I… was out shopping.”
Vaughn didn’t seem to notice anything strange about her and said
casually, “Send me your address in half an hour, I’ll have the driver pick you up and bring you to the old house.”
Adelia was a bit stunned, “Old house?”

“Yeah, my parents wanted to meet you.”
After Vaughn finished speaking, Adelia’s heart instantly jumped.
“Was it too soon to meet now?”
“They heard me mention your name every day, so they knew you really well.” Vaughn noticed she was nervous and said softly, “Don’t worry, they’re really nice.”
An hour later, Adelia stood in the living room of the Anderson’s manor.
She smoothed out the wrinkles on her skirt without thinking, and her heart was beating a bit faster than usual.
“Lia’s here?” Stella Anderson came out of the kitchen, still wearing her apron. “Dinner will be ready soon. You and Vaughn go play first.”
Adelia was stunned.
She thought today’s meeting would be really serious, but didn’t expect it to be such a casual scene.
In the kitchen, Owen Anderson was clumsily shaping pastries, and when he looked up, there was still a bit of flour on the tip of his nose.
“You two came at just the right time,” Owen’s eyes crinkled with a smile, “try my pastries and see if you like them.”
Vaughn somehow ended up standing behind her, his warm hand on her waist. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, “What did I say? They’re really nice people.”
Adelia felt it was unbelievable.
She never thought there’d be this kind of warmth in a rich family.

After the meal, Stella pushed a document in front of her.
“Lia, look at this.”
Adelia opened the file, and the words Sunshine Orphanage immediately caught her eye.
The transfer date was clearly written at the bottom, and it was way earlier than her checkup today.
“I heard you liked kids,” Owen sipped his tea, “this Sunshine Orphanage was funded by Vaughn, and all the kids there were really cute.”
Adelia’s fingers trembled a little.
Owen put down the mug and got straight to the point, “We the Anderson family never cared about carrying on the family line. Since Vaughn liked you, we had no objections.”
After she finished speaking, Stella took out a jade bracelet, “This was given to me by his mother before I married your uncle. Now I’m passing it on to you.”
She put the jade bracelet on Adelia’s wrist and said softly, “It fits perfectly, like it was made just for you.”
Vaughn gently squeezed her other hand.
At that moment, she finally seemed to understand why he had brought her here so confidently.
Pulling her thoughts back, Adelia took a deep breath and took one last look at herself in the mirror.
The anxious Adelia was gone, replaced by a woman filled with love.
