Chapter 22
After Adelia and Vaughn got together, life stayed as calm as ever.
It’s just that she always had something on her mind she couldn’t talk about.
Back then, she had a miscarriage because of Ethan. The doctor said she had heavy bleeding, which caused serious damage to her uterus, and it would be hard for her to get pregnant again.
Even though Vaughn kept telling her he didn’t care whether they had kids
- or not.
But Adelia knew that as the only heir of the Anderson Group, Vaughn could afford not to care, but the Anderson family couldn’t possibly not
care.
This realization was like a thorn, pricking at Adelia’s heart day and night.
That day Adelia came to the hospital for a checkup.
The doctor looked at her test results and shook his head helplessly: “Right now, there isn’t really any effective way. I suggest you don’t get too hung up on it.”
Adelia walked out of the clinic holding the report.
The paper in my hand was clearly light, but it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.
Right at that moment, she vaguely heard someone calling her name.
“Lia…”

The voice was so weak it sounded like it was coming from far away.
Adelia’s eyes shifted and landed on the crack of the half–open door to the hospital room.
Through that crack, she saw a face she knew all too well.
It was Jordan.
Jordan lay in the hospital bed, all his former confidence was gone.
His cheeks were sunken, his eye sockets hollow, like a skeleton wrapped in human skin.
Adelia’s fingers unconsciously tightened around the strap of her bag.
Ever since she went abroad, she never saw Jordan again.
She still remembered the last time they met, he yelled at her and called her a bastard, and also said the Keith family has no daughter like you
from now on.
Adelia stood at the door. Her mind told her she should turn around and leave, but her feet felt like they were rooted to the spot.
She looked at Jordan’s cloudy, bloodshot eyes, and finally stepped into the hospital room!
“Lia, it really was you…” Jordan’s voice shook as he struggled to raise his hand, “I thought I was seeing things.”
Adelia looked at him and said in such a cold voice that even she found it
strange.
“What are you doing here?”

months left.”
Adelia’s breathing paused a little.
Although she hated him, when the word death came out of Jordan’s mouth, her heart still tightened uncontrollably.
“Really…” she heard herself say, her voice dry and cold, “That’s a real shame.”
The smell of disinfectant filled the ward, mixed with a sense of decay.
Jordan struggled to get up. Adelia instinctively took a step forward to help, but then she stopped herself.
Jordan looked at her, his eyes unusually gentle.
“I just realized today, you look a lot like your mom…”
When her mother was mentioned, Adelia’s face instantly turned cold.
“Don’t mention her in front of me, you’re not worthy.”
A flash of pain crossed Jordan’s eyes, “I know, it was my fault, I let you and your mom down…”
“It didn’t mean anything to say all that anymore,” Adelia cut him off, “If you stopped me just to confess, you really didn’t have to.”
She turned to leave, and Jordan quickly called out to her.
“Wait…” he panted, “I heard you were with Vaughn?”
Adelia didn’t say yes or no.
Jordan took a deep breath, like he was making up his mind, and said, “Diana and Gwen… nobody knows where Ethan took them. The

Anderson family had connections on both sides of the law, just do me a favor…”
“Impossible.” Adelia refused without hesitation, and any sympathy she had was gone. “Those mother and daughter were in it together. They wanted to kill me back then. And now you want me to help them?”
Jordan looked pale and reached out his hand, shaking again, “Lia, Dad is dying soon, this is my last wish…”
“Jordan, remember this.” Adelia took a step back to avoid his hand, “They ended up like this because of karma, and so will you.”
Her voice was cold as ice, and every word felt like a knife stabbing into
Jordan’s heart.
After saying that, he walked out of the hospital room without looking back.
In the hallway, Adelia walked straight ahead with her back straight, but at the corner, her legs suddenly went weak. She held onto the wall and slowly crouched down, burying her face in her hands.
It was over…
These three words flashed through her mind.
All the grudges she had with the Keith family finally ended at this
moment.
