Chapter 28:
Jacob’s POV
Last time, Jacob flew to France without telling anyone to find Josephine.”
He did find her but ended up getting into a street fight with her boyfriend and was dragged straight to the police station. That night, he spent a lot of money to pull some strings to avoid being immediately deported back to New York However, not long after he left the police station, he was suddenly kidnapped and taken to an abandoned factory. First, they blindfolded him and left him there without food or water for three days.
On the fourth day, he saw a familiar face. It was Jesse Sorensen!
“Jacob, maybe I couldn’t touch you in New York. But here in France? This is my turf.”
Jesse raised his hand and slapped him across the face. Tm going to settle the score with you for bullying my sister.” Jacob’s nose immediately started bleeding, but he willingly took the hit.
He spat out some blood, tumed his head and said, “You’re right. I owe Josephine, I owe the Sorensen family.
“It’s good that you know! Brothers, give him a good beating!”
Jesse waved his hand and a group of people rushed forward, punching and kicking Jacob.
Jacob endured it all in silence, letting Jesse torture him in every way imaginable.
“You can punish me however you want and I won’t complain. But can you let me see Josephine one last time?”
Jesse scoffed. “Who do you think you are? Do you still want to see my sister? Bringing you two together is the biggest regret of my lifel Mentioning Josephine only fueled Jesse’s anger and he immediately ordered his men to go all out.
Jacob was held captive in that abandoned factory for a full seven days.”
Jesse broke his limbs and severely injured his internal organs. Ultimately, the Gilmores‘ helicopter picked him up and took him back to New York
He lay in the hospital for a whole month before gradually regaining consciousness. It then took him another three months of long and arduous rehabilitation before he could finally walk again!
Over those months, his mental state deteriorated and he often experienced hallucinations!
Sometimes, his assistant would accompany him for a walk in the hospital’s small garden and he would see a familiar figure. The woman had long hair that reached her waist, wearing a floral dress as she held the hand of a little girl, just a few years old.!! The little girl had pigtails and was holding a stuffed rabbit.
His heart would jolt and he would rush forward, grabbing the woman’s arm. “Josephine!”
The woman would turn around, only to push him away. “You’ve got the wrong person!”
“No, you are Josephine. Jasmine is here, too. I wouldn’t mistake your
The woman would quickly pull the little girl away. “You look so well–dressed, but I didn’t expect you to be a lunatic!” Jacob could only stare blankly as they walked away, realizing that he had hallucinated and mistaken someone else for her.!! Gnce he recovered and was discharged from the hospital, the first thing he did was inquire about Josephine’s whereabouts. He knew he couldn’t find Josephine alone and he dreaded hearing that she had married someone else and had children.N His hallucinations were becoming more frequent and he didn’t know how much longer he could stay sane.
His assistant hurriedly walked into the study. “Mr. Gilmore, we’ve found Madam’s location.”
Jacob’s eyes lit up and he asked excitedly. “Where is she?”
“In the Alps. She arrived there a day ago.””
“Prepare the private jet for me immediately! Im going to the Alpst
