Chapter 24:
Josephine’s POV
After divorcing Jacob, my brother seemed mlieved
He followed me around like a shadow during the days when I went back to New York City to deal with the divorce.
If I disappeared from his sight for five minutes, he would become very anxious and search everywhere for me
This even included the few minutes I spent in the restroom!
One time, I was having dinner with him at a restaurant and I went to the bathroom but left my phone on the table. When I came out, the whole place was in chaos.
My brother directed people to look for me everywhere and my phone had over a dozen missed calls.
From that day on, my brother wouldn’t let me out of his sight for more than five minutes.
“Jesse, Jacob and I really have no chance anymore. You don’t need to worry”
My brother clearly didn’t believe me. He scrutinized my expression, his brows furrowed deeply. Josephine, no way. Before coming to New York City, Mom and Dad specifically told me to keep a good eye on you. If something happens to you again this time, if someone bullies you again, I won’t be able to face Mom and Dad when I go back.”
“returned to get a divorce from him, not to reconcile. You can all rest assured.”
My brother nodded, indicating he understood, but he still followed me closely, not daring to relax even a little.
wasn’t until the divorce lawsuit was over that my brother finally believed me.
*Jesse, now you can finally be completely relieved, right?”
you loved that bastard for ten years. I didn’t think you’d get over it so
“Josephine, you can’t blame me for what happened before. After all, you lo easily
I said faintly. “My heart was completely broken. It died, so naturally, it’s over. There’s no possibility between him and me anymore.” “Then shall we go back to France now? Coincidentally, the lavender in the manor is blooming. You haven’t seen it yet, have you?”
I shook my head. “In a couple of days. Before leaving, I want to visit Jasmine.”
My brother and I went to the cemetery together. It was very quiet, with only the two of us.
Jesse’s expression was solemn and he didn’t speak to me.
He followed me to Jasmine’s grave. Staring at the little girl’s bright, smiling face on the tombstone, he gently touched it, his eyes red with
Jasmine, this is your uncle. He’s come to see you‘
My brother took a deep breath, his voice choked with emotion. “Jasmine, I’m sorry, Uncle is late.“2
When Jasmine was born, my entire family had already immigrated to France.
Jasmine had met my family members only a handful of times, but my brother would come to New York City twice a year.
Despre such few visits, my brother was Jasmine’s favourite family member. She often asked me to video chat with him
My brother lowered his head and said in a muffled voice, “Why didn’t you tell me that Jasmine was sick?”
“Jasmine had such a good relationship with you. I was afraid you’d worry. When she first got sick, the doctor had already told me that she couldn’t be cured. I took her to see famous doctors everywhere and every doctor gave the same diagnosis.”
“Jesse, am I very useless?”
My brother sighed, turned around and gently hugged me “Josephine, this is not your fault.
“Jesse, can you let me stay with Jasmine for a while?7
My brother looked at me, then at Jasmine’s grave and finally nodded. “I’ll be not far away. If anything happens, just shout and I’ll come immediately.”
I stayed before Jasmine’s grave and talked to her for a long time
Until the sky gradually darkened and it was almost time
“Baby, don’t worry Mommy will take good care of herself.”
1 turmed and walked away
My brother glanced back at Jasmine’s grave. “Aren’t you taking Jasmine with yo
“She wants to stay here. It was her last wish
you?”
