Chapter 13
After returning home, she received a message from Harold on Social Media Platform.
“Sorry about today. I won’t let Sophia bother you again.”
Emily replied with a single word: “Okay.”
Soon, Harold sent another message on Social Media Platform.
“Can I know the answer to that question Sophia asked today?”
Then he added:
“It’s fine if you’d rather not say.”
Emily sighed softly while reading these messages.
She thought she’d made everything crystal clear to Harold during their last conversation at home–cutting ties should prevent any possibilities.
Apparently, it wasn’t thorough enough.
This time, Emily typed her reply carefully.
“Harold, I’ve always been someone who doesn’t hold onto things I’ve let go.”
“The moment I threw away our wedding rings, I stopped loving you.”
“Even if there were lingering feelings back then, half a year has passed. All that love and resentment has faded away.”

Emily stared at the typing indicator blinking beside Harold’s name, until finally a single message appeared:
“Understood. I won’t cross that line again.”
She left it unanswered and headed straight for the shower.
Emerging from the steam, her phone chimed with a Digital Wallet notification: $300,000 received.
A note accompanied it: “For the anniversary gift. Consider us settled up.”
The words “settled up” glowed on the screen. Emily didn’t initiate a
refund.
If Harold insisted on repayment, so be it.
Emily’s Social Media Platform pinged with a new friend request. The profile picture showed a cream–colored Munchkin cat, the username simply “Keith“.
Emily never accepted strangers, rejecting it without hesitation.
Unexpectedly, the request reappeared instantly–this time with a “?” in the verification box.
Emily couldn’t resist typing in the reply field.
“Question mark? Who are you?”
The response came within seconds.
“Didn’t the school inform you?”
“Ride with me to the neighboring city for tomorrow’s lecture.”

It belatedly dawned on her–the school had indeed organized a junior faculty field trip recently.
Because she had told Harold about her flower allergy and submitted the form late, she got automatically assigned to the last group.
As for which teachers were in that final group, she hadn’t paid any
attention.
Emily promptly accepted the friend request and introduced herself.
J’Hi, I’m Emily. I teach Chinese for the key sophomore class.”
“Keith.”
Emily was about to screenshot and vent to her best friend about how icy this guy was when Keith messaged again.
“Meet at the school gate tomorrow. Just you and me in our group. My Mercedes has license plate 697 BBJ.”
Reading this, Emily instantly recalled that G–Class that helped her earlier that evening.
Suddenly feeling a bit curious about tomorrow… it couldn’t be that coincidental, could it?
The next morning, Emily appeared punctually at the school gate, though some teachers had arrived even earlier. They greeted her with gossipy
chit–chat and smiles.
“Emily, this might just be your blessing in disguise today. Word is Keith parachuted in from a top–tier position, and he’s quite the looker.”
“Exactly! He organized this event with the administration right after joining our school. Truly accomplished for his age.”

“Since you’re done with that doctor ex–husband of yours, maybe consider Keith? He’s a prime catch!”
Listening to their chatter, Emily gradually pieced together details about Keith. Similar age to hers, handsome, single, well–connected…
For some reason, the image of yesterday’s car repairman suddenly flashed before her eyes again.

Just then, the teachers were getting into their cars one after another. In no no time, only Emily stood alone at the school gate, holding her suitcase.
She glanced down at her watch. The agreed departure time was almost here.
If Keith showed up late, she’d have little patience–punctuality mattered. As the thought crossed her mind, a G–Class SUV rolled smoothly before her.
It was truly yesterday’s vehicle!
Before Emily could react, Keith stepped out of the car.
When their eyes met, she caught a faint glimmer of amusement in his.
“Emily, right? Seems you’ll be treating me to dinner.“.
