That night, on my date with Nathaniel, I got drunk for the first time.
When he carried me to the car, I was dizzy, my arms hooked around his neck, refusing to let go.
Nathaniel chuckled. “Sera, you need to learn your limit.”
“I don’t want to,” I mumbled. Why should I? Nathaniel was here. Nothing bad could happen.
“I won’t always be by your side.”
“Then I won’t drink when you’re not by my side.”
I snuggled into his chest, a boneless, happy weight. He was so warm, but he was all hard muscle, not exactly comfortable to cuddle against. I poked and prodded, squirming in his lap for a while before I finally found a comfortable position.
The thing was, once I was comfortable, Nathaniel suddenly looked very… uncomfortable.
I tilted my head back to look at him. The alcohol made my vision swim. I reached up and cupped his face. “Nathaniel, what’s wrong?”
“Sera.”
His voice was suddenly hoarse, and the temperature of his body seemed to be rising. He felt like a furnace. I started to feel too hot and tried to
climb off his lap.

His voice was suddenly hoarse, and the temperature of his body seemed to be rising. He felt like a furnace. I started to feel too hot and tried to climb off his lap.
But Nathaniel’s arm tightened around my waist like a steel band. His fingers were long and strong, his palm scorching hot against my skin, even through the thin fabric of my dress.
Lost in the moment, I stared at him, mesmerized.
And then Nathaniel lowered his head and kissed me.
It was a kiss unlike any I had ever known–possessive, dominant to its very core, yet unforgettable. It felt like a door to an unknown world was creaking open before me.
When the kiss ended, I was left wanting more. Maybe it was the alcohol, or maybe it was the wild, untamable streak that was always a part of me. When Nathaniel tried to gently move me off his lap, I lunged forward and kissed him again, this time with a fierce hunger.
“More,” I mumbled against his lips. “Kiss me like that again, Nathaniel.”
“Sera.”
The The car glided smoothly through the city, the streetlights outside casting shifting patterns of light and shadow across his face. He was so close, his features magnified, ruggedly handsome. Our breath’s were hot, tangled together…
A strange itch started deep inside me. I playfully bit his chin. “Stop hesitating, Nathaniel.”
His Adam’s apple bobbed violently. In one swift movement, he flipped me onto my back on the seat, his body caging mine. His long fingers tilted my chin up. “Open your mouth, Sera.”
The car had been parked for a long time, but we were still locked in a breathless kiss. At some point, his suit jacket and shirt had been torn open in my frenzy, revealing the hard planes of his abs and the faint lines of his hips, a sight that only fueled my dizzying desire.
But in the end, Nathaniel pulled away.
I felt a pang of disappointment, but the waves of drunkenness were too strong to fight.
When he lifted me from the car, I curled up in his arms and fell asleep.
