Chapter 22%
“What did you say?” Simon practically roared the question.
I calmly raised my eyes to meet his.
“Since, in your eyes, I’m a useless, scheming woman, then there’s no need for us to continue.“Z
“Let’s get a divorce. It’ll be better for both of us.”
I forcefully suppressed the tears about to spill, gritting my teeth as I finished those words in one breath.%
“Impossible.”
“Suzanne, please don’t make trouble, okay?“}
I didn’t waste any more words on him, simply saying, “See you at the City Hall tomorrow,” before turning and going upstairs.% I tossed and turned the entire night.”
I knew Simon loved me, but there was a lack of trust in that love.
I would rather not have that kind of love.
When I saw Simon the next day, he also had dark circles under his eyes, looking like he hadn’t slept well.
Before going inside, Simon grabbed my hand.
“Suzanne, do we really have to go this far?“}
“We haven’t even been together for that long.”
I pursed my lips, my gaze towards him full of reluctance.}]
“Then do you believe now that Julie is the reason I got sick?”
Simon didn’t speak. His silence represented his distrust.
I laughed at myself.”
“Maxwell never believed me before. No matter what Chelsea said, he would unconditionally side with her.”
“I can’t count how many times I suffered injustice before.“}
“When I left him, I had already decided I wanted someone who would unconditionally stand by me.“}
I paused, calmly watching Simon’s face grow paler.
“Simon, you’ve lost your last chance in my heart.”
Simon’s lips got moved, but he couldn’t utter a single word for a long time.
Getting the divorce certificate was smoother than when we got our marriage certificate.
I felt a pang of bitterness in my heart. Did even fate think I should get a divorce?}
Looking at the certificate in my hand, I felt a sense of unreality.}
I had been through so much during this time.}
Two months ago, a phone call brought Simon back to the country and we got our marriage certificate in a rush.”
This marriage lasted only two short months and now it was ending so easily.
I asked myself if I shouldn’t give up on this relationship over such a small matter as his distrust.
But a voice inside me told me that Simon’s distrust would only escalate and in the end, we would become like me and Maxwell. ‘Suzanne, you can come find me if you need anything.“}
I nodded on the surface but knew I probably wouldn’t have any more contact with him.”
I looked in surprise at Maxwell waiting outside. He looked radiant now, even having used hairspray.”
As soon as he saw me come out, the excitement on Maxwell’s face couldn’t be hidden and he eagerly squeezed next to me.” “Suzanne, you’re finally divorced!”
“Maxwell.”%
Simon warned him with a dark expression, but Maxwell acted as if he hadn’t heard and grabbed my arm. *Suzanne, I knew you still couldn’t let me go.“”
“I’ve figured it out. My feelings for Chelsea were just a fleeting infatuation. The person I love is still you.” “I’ve completely broken things off with Chelsea now, Suzanne. Please give me another chance, okay?“\ I coldly avoided Maxwell’s touch.”
If Simon’s problem was just his distrust, then Maxwell had long been sentenced to death in my heart.
I stepped back and looked at the Ferguson brothers standing together, a hint of disgust in my eyes.
“You and you too, I don’t want to see either of you again.“”
“Please don’t bother me anymore in the future.“%
Having said that, I ignored their pale faces and returned to my apartment alone.
I had just let out a sigh of relief and collapsed onto the sofa when I received the only news that had made me happy these past few days.
