Chapter 13%
As soon as I stepped out, I caught the smug look on Chelsea’s face.
“See, Max? I told you she’s stringing you along while trying to get close to Simon.“\
I raised an eyebrow, not even bothering to respond. I walked right past her, ready to leave.
But Maxwell grabbed my wrist, his breath heavy with alcohol.
I frowned and covered my nose with my other hand.M
“Have you been drinking?”
My disgusted tone sounded like concern to Maxwell.
A flicker of light appeared in his eyes, disregarding Chelsea beside him. He pulled me roughly towards him.
“Suzanne, you still care about me, don’t you?”
“Every time I got drunk, you’d make me hangover drink. Suzanne, where’s my drink?”
The drunk Maxwell acted like a child whose candy had been stolen, stubbornly holding onto me and refusing to let go. “Max.” Chelsea’s face was pale as she tugged at Maxwell’s sleeve.
She had gone so far as to place the corpse of her beloved pet in front of my door, all to make Maxwell see my “true colours.” Who knew that Maxwell not only did not blame me for two–timing him, but he had also become like this.
Maxwell narrowed his eyes and looked back, seeing Chelsea pitifully pulling on him.
“Chelsea? What are you doing here?“}
The expression on Chelsea’s face twisted for a moment but quickly returned to normal. “Max, didn’t you say you were coming to settle the score with Suzanne today?”
Maxwell looked at her blankly, appearing somewhat out of his senses.}
“What score would I settle with Suzanne?”
“Could it be that she secretly stayed up late again without me knowing?“}]
My body stiffened. Before Chelsea appeared, Maxwell revolved entirely around me.
He skipped class to buy my favourite milk tea.}]
Carefully picking out the cilantro because he knew I didn’t like it.
When I secretly stayed up late, he would pretend to be angry, insisting that I repeatedly promise to take care of my health before he would forgive me.
These years of chasing after him weren’t just because of his life–saving grace; his past kindness to me was unforgettable.
Chelsea’s face went red, then white. She never imagined Maxwell would say something like that.
“Max, have you forgotten? She’s been stringing you along while flirting with your big brother.“,
“Isn’t that why you got drunk tonight?”
For a moment, his eyes cleared. Maybe he was still dreaming, or perhaps the alcohol hadn’t completely taken over, but he suddenly shoved Chelsea aside.”
*Suzanne only loves me. She’d never go after my brother,” he insisted, pulling me into his arms.
Chelsea stumbled back, clutching her chest like she’d been hit.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I shoved Maxwell off me and shot him a cold look.
“It’s over between us.”
“Maxwell, you’re the one who cheated. So, who are you trying to fool with this whole ‘devoted lover‘ act?“}
“What? You’re done playing with Chelsea and now you want to come crawling back to me?“}}
Lignored how dark his face was getting and gave him a mocking smile.
“You honestly make me sick.”
Silence fell like a hammer. Even Chelsea didn’t dare say a word. She just watched him nervously.”
His face was black as thunder. Without a word, he grabbed my hand, dragged me into the house and slammed the door in Chelsea’s face. I raised an eyebrow at him.
“What? Done pretending to be drunk now, Mr. Ferguson?”
