Chapter 7
Xander acted as if he couldn’t hear Mary’s words. He continued slamming his hand onto the table, over and over again, until his hand bled. Yet he felt no pain.
Seeing this, Mary cried out in distress, “Xander, don’t do this! Stop it…”
Xander froze for a moment, and in the next second, his eyes turned red.
Lowering his head, he choked out, “Mary, Sharon is gone… Why? Why did she abandon me, too?”
Mary had been with the Cooper family for twenty years and had watched Xander grow up.
His parents were always busy with work, so most of the time, it was Mary who took care of him.
Having never married or had children, she had always regarded Xander as her own son.
Since the passing of his parents, Xander had appeared as a powerful and accomplished young president of the Cooper Group.
Yet it didn’t mean it was easy. He broke down several times.
It was Mary and I who stayed by his side, making sure he knew he was not alone.
But now, I was gone too. Now, the only person left by Xander’s side was Mary.
Mary sighed and said, “Xander, I just checked Sharon’s belongings.

Xander couldn’t hold back his tears anymore, letting them fall in front of Mary. With teary eyes, he asked her in confusion, “Mary, why do you think Sharon left? I know I shouldn’t have yelled at her, but I already apologized.
“Why would she be so heartless over something so trivial and leave without a word?”
Mary sighed and said, “This is not trivial at all. In five years, you have never argued with her. But today, you scolded her because of Ms. Shaw. Sharon is your wife. You should always stand by her side.”
Although Mary wasn’t there at the time, she had overheard the phone call Xander made to me in the car and could roughly guess what had happened at home.
Clenching his teeth in sorrow, Xander said, “If she was angry, she could have hit me or scolded me. I wouldn’t have fought back. Why did she
have to leave like this?
“Sharon knows how much she means to me. I can’t live without her!”
Mary couldn’t understand it, either. In her eyes, I was a kind, generous, and understanding woman.
Why would I leave over something so pointless?
Suddenly, Mary seemed to think of something and hesitantly asked, “Could it be that she found out about you and Ms. Shaw?”
“Impossible! No way! I’ve already warned my friends and Cathy not to say anything in front of Sharon. She couldn’t have known!”
Before Mary could finish speaking, Xander had already refuted her words with determination.

Looking at him, Mary let out a helpless sigh. “Well, secrets don’t really exist…”
Before she could finish, Cathy walked into the study, holding a child in
her arms.
Mary fell silent.
Softly, Cathy said, “Xander, Jason has been crying nonstop, and I can’t calm him down. He keeps calling for his daddy, so I thought he must miss you. That’s why I brought him here.”
“Xander, can you hold Jason for a while?”
In the past, no matter where he was or how late it was, as long as Cathy used Jason missing his father as an excuse, Xander would always rush to them as quickly as possible.
So this time, Cathy tried the same trick again, hoping to use Jason to divert Xander’s attention from searching for me.
But this time, Xander did not take Jason from her hands like before. Instead, he impatiently said, “I don’t have time right now. Let Mary take care of him.”
Mary took Jason from Cathy and gently patted him. Instantly, Jason stopped crying and even started laughing.
Seeing this, Xander couldn’t help but say to Cathy, “You can’t even comfort a child. What else can you do? How are you even a mother?”
Cathy bit her lip, not daring to say a word. She just stood there, nervously wringing her hands.
Coldly, Xander questioned her, “Cathy, tell me. What exactly happened upstairs this morning? Why did Sharon get so angry? Did you say something to her that you shouldn’t have?”
