Chapter 9

Third Person’s POV

The moment Norris saw the photo, his memories came rushing back

Without a second thought, he ran into the bedroom. Guided by instinct, he pulled open the drawer of the nightstand. The box sitting inside looked strangely familiar. His heart skipped a beat.

He took it out and opened it, but it was empty

Thinking he must’ve remembered it wrong, he started pulling open drawer after drawer, searching. But there were no boxes in each

When he yanked open the last drawer and still came up empty, something inside him snapped. He turned his head toward the window and suddenly collapsed to the floor as if the strength had been drained from his body.”

Norris, what the hell did you do?!

He punched himself hard, over and over, but his mind couldn’t stop replaying the look in Clarissa’s eyes that nightempty, hollow, like her soul had drifted away

All she had wanted was to get the ring back, and what had he done?

He never let her explain. Worse, he’d accused her of being petty and even let Matthew throw the ring into the fireplace

Now, that scene played in his head with painful clarity, especially the moment he’d pushed her to the ground, the hurt on her face carved into his memory.§
