Chapter 1
My daughter’s head was struck by falling debris. Died on the spot.
In extreme anguish, I decided to take our neighbor to court.
“Ill support you no matter what. We’re gonna get justice for our baby girl!” my husband Declan Morrison held me, voice full of pain.
But the day we went to court, the property manager claimed the security footage had been accidentally damaged.
He swore I’d seen it wrong. The toy car falling must was just an accident-that little boy even didn’t know what he was doing.
I couldn’t take it, completely lost it right there.
Worrying about me, Declan had them give me a sedative.
When I came to, I heard a woman’s voice from the stairwell, sounding upset:
‘Dec, thank God you paid off the property manager. But I swear I didn’t do it on purpose…”
That little car was the gift you gave our son when he turned three. He loved it so much-he’s been crying about losing it in his sleep…”
Declan’s voice soothing:
It’s okay,Vanessa. I’ll get him something way better tonight.”
That girl’s dead, so what? She was just unlucky. Our boy’s my only heir anyway. With me around, you guys have nothing to worry about!”
n the dim stairwell light, Vanessa put on her conflicted act:
Raven just lost her baby-she’s gotta be devastated. You should stay home with her tonight. I can handle Camden’s birthday by myself.”
It’s just… Camden misses you so much. If he finds out daddy’s not coming, he’ll be heartbroken. And I miss you too…”
eeing her eyes well up, Declan’s heart melted.
le pulled Vanessa into his arms, voice tender as ever:
Five years, and have I ever missed our son’s birthday? I may not be able to marry you, but I’ll always be there for you and him.”
As for Raven… she’s an adult. Time she learned to toughen up.”
anessa sighed, pushing him away half-heartedly:
Dec, I get it, but Raven’s still young. She’ll get pregnant again eventually. You think she’ll let Camden be your heir?”
Forget it. I don’t want to make things hard for you. Just seeing you is enough for me… I just feel bad for our boy…”
Something hardened in Declan’s eyes, like he’d made up his mind.
He dialed the property manager:
I’ll give you another two million. When I leave in a bit, bring some guys with crowbars to my place. Destroy Raven’s uterus.”
“Vanessa, I promised you our son would be my only heir. I won’t let you worry about anything.”
Watching them together, I fled back to the bedroom.
I collapsed on the bed, tears streaming down my face.
The damaged footage wasn’t an accident-it was Declan protecting the woman he loved.
My husband of seven years already had a child with someone else, and he’d dare to move them right upstairs!
What was I to him?
What was my poor daughter?!
