Chapter 28
As soon as I opened the door and walked in, I noticed something was wrong.
The house was so clean that it was scary. The floor, which had not been occupied for half a month, was spotless.
I frowned and walked in.
Just as I was about to push open the bedroom door, it happened to open from the inside.
Bernard was wearing a sweatshirt with his sleeves rolled up at his forearms.
There was a thin layer of sweat on his forehead and he was holding a rag in his hand.
I was a little confused.N
“Hadley, I’m here to atone for my sins.”
He spoke and took the initiative to say the first sentence.
“I asked for a long time and finally asked about your birthday. I will remember it in the future and I will come to accompany you every birthday. Hadley, don’t be angry with me anymore, okay? We are almost half a century old, let’s take a step back and spend the rest of our lives together, okay?”
! sneered.N
A couple who had slept together for twenty years, took so much effort to ask about my birthday.
He really had the nerve to say it.N
“Look, I cleaned the room very well, cooked for you and replaced your broken light bulb. I knelt down to mop the floor and finally realized your hard work. I ignored you in the past. You don’t have to do these things in the future, I will do them all.”
I didn’t say anything, my eyes passed him and fell on the bedroom.
On the bedside table, the photo of me and Bernard in our school days that I had put away was put out again. That was the only photo of him and me and I had always treasured it.
It was a pity…S
I pushed him away and walked into the room quickly, picked up the photo and threw it into the trash can.
The photo frame hit the wall of the trash can, making a crisp sound.
“Garbage should be put in the trash can. I threw it away, why did you pick it up? It only adds to my troubles.”
Simply a simple sentence, a calm tone, without any questioning, but Bernard’s face suddenly turned pale.}
He suddenly half–knelt down to look for the trash can, but accidentally knocked down a notebook on the bookshelf.
The yellowed notebook fell to the ground and the page that was opened contained a diagnosis report of depression. The notebook was densely covered with small words.
Bernard subconsciously picked it up to read it and I picked up the comb on the dressing table and threw it at him fiercely.”
“Don’t touch it!”
But it was still a step too late.
The comb was thrown off the side and didn’t hit Bernard at all. He had read the text at a glance.§
He curled up and twitched violently and the rag in his hand and the notebook fell together.
The page of paper was spread out in a wrinkled state and the handwriting on it was stained black by tears.
[Why doesn’t he believe me?]
Bernard gasped for air, as if he was in so much pain that he couldn’t breathe.
I watched him struggle in silence.}
The memories that I threw away with my own hands, now under the care of the moonlight, froze my heart.
I thought I didn’t care anymore.”
But the memories of twenty years ago surged back and I still couldn’t resist the swallowing of the emotional beast.
“Hadley, I was really wrong. Please give me a chance to atone for my sins.”
Bernard’s face was full of pain and the veins on his hand holding the notebook bulged.”
The wound on his hand had not yet healed completely and the gauze on his right hand was completely soaked with blood.
“Give me a chance to make up for the twenty years you lost.“}
Bernard looked at me expectantly, his expression almost begging, but I just shook my head.
“But I don’t care anymore. I don’t need your belated love anymore.”
I walked in step by step.
“Do you know when I was disappointed in you for the first time?” I said to myself.”
“It was the day Ash died.“%
