Because of what Nancy said, Filbert was hit right in the spot he feared- and hurt–the most.
Furious and humiliated, he had her strung up outside the rooftop terrace for a full day and night.
Even then, there was no satisfaction in his heart.
No matter how much he refused to admit it out loud, deep down, he knew better than anyone else he might never be forgiven.
The girl who used to have eyes only for him.
The girl who once promised they’d grow old together.
The girl who swore to love him for a lifetime.
In the end, he’d lost her.
But until he found me again, he couldn’t bring himself to let go.
Even if there was only the faintest glimmer of hope, he had to try everything to win me back.
While Filbert was desperately searching for me at any cost, I had already been in France for a month.

When he pulled me from the water, his eyes were bloodshot, his voice trembling with fear he tried to hide.
“Felicia, how could you be so foolish? That man isn’t worth your life. He’s not worth anything.
“Have you forgotten? I’ve always been behind you. All you had to do was turn around, and you’d see me standing there.”
He brought me back with him to France.
And once he saw that I was beginning to recover, he handed me a folder filled with documents.
They were the deeds and proof of ownership for all his assets.
With steady eyes, he told me, “In the past ten years, I swear, there hasn’t been another woman in my life. I’ve been waiting for you.
“Felicia, you know I’ve loved you since we were kids. I never forgot you. I never let go of that promise we made ten years ago. If you’re willing to look back, you’ll see that I’ve always been right here.”
Our families had been close for generations, and Logan and I grew up together.
Ten years ago, his parents moved to France to focus on their business, and he had no choice but to move with them.
Before he left, he made me a promise.
“Felicia, if ten years pass and you’re still single–and you want to—just come to France. I’ll marry you.”
I was young back then, too young to entrust my future to a single promise.
I told myself I’d wait a couple of years before deciding.

But then everything changed–my family fell into chaos, and Filbert barged into my life. Slowly, my contact with Logan faded away.

This past month, he hired a therapist to help me heal, gave up all work, and stayed by my side day and night.
Thanks to his care and quiet support, I was finally able to escape the nightmare Filbert left me with.

I had turned away from a good man who loved me deeply and instead wasted years on a selfish, unfaithful jerk.

On Christmas Day, surrounded by friends and family, I took the initiative and proposed to Logan.

more.

eyes turned red as he accepted, his hands trembling as he slipped the ring onto my finger.
“Felicia. It’s been ten years. I can’t believe this is finally happening.”
I pulled him into a gentle embrace.
