Chapter 15%
Davina’s POV
After being exposed, Cleo was kicked out of the Ashbournes on the spot. She turned back and glared at us like she wanted to kill.” “You’ll all pay for this–every single one of you!”
Humphrey just gave her a smirk. “Why don’t you start by paying off your credit cards?“}
Turns out, all her insane shopping sprees these past few days were racked up on cards under her own name.}
Cleo clenched her jaw and stormed off.”
But the way she looked at us–that twisted, burning hatred–I knew she wasn’t going to let this go. Not quietly.
And I was right.”
A week later, she and Daxon went public. Their announcement blew up online and shot straight to the top of the trending lists.
Daxon’s POV
That same day we made the announcement, I finally showed up at training again after being MIA for ages. The locker room was buzzing. Whispers from my teammates reached my ears.}
“Didn’t the royal princess dump him?“)
“And now he’s messing around with Humphrey’s leftovers.”
Every one of those hushed voices was like a needle stabbing straight into my already shattered pride.
I sat in the locker room, my face blank, my old wounds still healing, my eyes bloodshot, my hands shaking. I knew I was seconds from snapping.
Just then, my phone buzzed.§
It was a message from Cleo.
[Babe, come over. I’ve got the perfect way to help you unwind.]}
I didn’t even think. Just grabbed my jacket and bolted for her apartment.}
The second I walked in, the overpowering scent of perfume hit me.}
Cleo was waiting, barefoot in a nearly see–through nightgown, smiling like a cat that got the cream.
Cleo’s POV
“Come on, babe. Have a drink.“}
I handed Daxon a glass. The drink was spiked.}
He tossed it back without a second thought.
Almost instantly, I could tell his stomach started burning. Sweat dripped down his face as he tugged at his collar, breathing hard.”
I slipped my arms around his neck, my voice soft and sweet.
“You only have me now, babe. I’m the only one who stayed…“)
My fingertips traced the muscles on his body as my voice coiled sweetly in his ears.
“Forget her, okay? Let me help you relax tonight…”
That night was chaotic and wild!
Daxon’s POV
When I woke up, my goddamn head was splitting open. I pushed himself up and noticed row of tiny bottles lined up on the nightstand -each one labeled with some drug I didn’t recognize.”
“What the heil…?“%
Cleo came out of the kitchen wrapped in a sheet, smiling at me.
“It’s the latest generation of stimulants,” she said cheerfully. “Sharpens your brain, boosts reaction time. Totally undetectable. You wanna win, right? I’m helping you.”%
I stared at the bottles, hesitant.
“Don’t worry, babe. I’d never hurt you,” she cooed, blinking those wide, innocent eyes.}
I swallowed hard, and then I closed my eyes, grabbed a bottle, and downed it.
It hit my stomach like fire.
But I didn’t stop.
Because I knew–without the game, without the gold–I had no right to ever go back to Davina. Three days later, I was back at practice.S
I was a beast–explosive, lightning–fast, unstoppable. Even Coach slammed the table in excitement. “Amazing recovery! Keep it up. You’re starting next match!”
My teammates clapped me on the back, cheering.
Cleo stood on the sidelines, bearing sweetly.
But I stood there frozen.

‘Something cold… is curling up from deep inside me.’
I didn’t feel tired. I didn’t even feel pain.
All I felt was this searing, unrelenting fire tearing through my body.
Like I was burning myself alive–for one last shot at a dream that might not even be real.}
As long as I could win, as long as he could stand on that podium, I might have a chance.}
A chance to get back into Davina’s world.
A chance to maybe win her back.
