Chapter 27 Team Up

Jonathan momentarily froze, taken by surprise. When he finally came back to the present, he was staring into Natalie’s cunning eyes.
Those mesmerizing eyes of hers shimmered with a bold, unhidden desire.
The kind of desire that wanted to claim him as hers.
Snapping out of it, Jonathan placed both hands on her shoulders and gently pushed her away.
When she didn’t respond earlier, he’d panicked.
He thought she might be trying to kill herself again.
In that moment, his mind spiraled into guilt and reflected on his mistake.
Had he done something today to upset her? Or worse–had he said something that might’ve angered Jacques?
Jonathan,” her soft voice called from behind him.
He would rather not respond.
She had played too many games, and he had fallen into too many traps. He wasn’t about to throw himself into another trap that would invite more humiliation.
And yet, while his mind was clear, his body lost control.
By the time he reached the door, he found himself stopping.
Turning around, he saw her sitting in the bathtub, her skin glistening beneath the steam. Her beautiful eyes, half–veiled in mist, looked innocent and impossibly alluring. She spread her arms toward him.
“Honey, I feel dizzy. My legs are weak. Carry me, please?”
Her voice was soft, and she acted cute with him. Her final two words struck him with a forceful impact. Every defense Jonathan had built collapsed like sandcastles in a tide.
When he turned and walked out decisively, Natalie felt a small stab of disappointment.
Have my charms failed? Or is he simply not interested in me?
Then suddenly, a warm towel dropped over her head.
Natalie looked up to find Jonathan crouched beside her, gently drying her hair with the towel.
Moments later, he wrapped her up tight–like a mummy–and lifted her into his arms, carrying her out of the bathroom.
Her eyes lit up. She tried to wrap her arms around his neck, but he stopped her before she could.
“You should go to bed now. I’m sleeping in the guest room.
Jonny, I think I’m conting down with something” she said in a soft, pitiful voice.
She guided his hand to her forehead, acting weak.
Natalie thought maybe, just maybe, he’d stay the night if she played the part right. But to her dismay, he pulled his hand away and quietly walked out of the room.
Unmoved by anything, huh?
That stoked a fire in her. That tiny spark of competition ignited into something more stubborn, more intense.
They say the best things are the ones you can’t have–and right now, she understood that more than ever.

The more Jonathan refused her, the more she wanted to sleep with him.
Her phone screen lit up on the nightstand.
Natalie picked it up and switched off the silent mode.
She had purposely put it on silent earlier, expecting a long and eventful night with Jonathan.
But the message surprised her.
She replied, “Didn’t expect you to reach out first. What’s up, Alpha? Are you ready to team up?”
Alpha wondered, “Tell me–was Cosmos Tech your trap?”
Natalie wrote, “Oh my, busted. Want to team up and stir things up?”
Alpha asked, “Is Cosmos Tech the trap you set? Are you trying to take him down?”
Natalie answered, “I’m just reclaiming what’s mine. As for him, yeah, I don’t plan to let him walk away.”
Alpha wrote, “I’m in. After it’s done, I don’t want a single dime.
Natalie asked, “Not even a cut? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me.”

Alpha rebuked, “Please. Get over yourself. Who knows whether you’re somebody or a girl? I just want Jacques to have a rough
time.
What had Jacques done to get on Alpha’s bad side?
Clearly, Alpha despised him.
She shrugged. Whatever the reason, it didn’t matter.
If Alpha was willing to work with her, everything would go smoother.
Just as she was thinking that, the door creaked open.
Jonathan walked in with medicine in hand–only to find Natalie passed out on the floor.
He rushed to her side and found her skin was burning.
Jonathan felt her forehead and realized she had a fever.
How did that happen? He’d only gone downstairs for a few minutes to prepare the medicine. Why was she burning up?
He placed her on the bed and tried to help her take the medicine.
But it just spilled from the corners of her mouth. She couldn’t swallow it.
Hearing the sound, Yvonne had come in.
“Daddy, how can Mommy drink the medicine when she’s so sick?” The little one asked, pointing to her lips. “You should give it to her with your mouth if she can’t swallow it
She was clearly recalling something she’d seen on TV.
The male lead fed medicine mouth–to–mouth to the female lead–and somehow, morning would always come right after.
Christopher entered right after her.
He glanced at the bed, then noticed something sticking out from under the pillow–a silver needle.
He then smirked as something had clicked in his mind.
“If her fever’s so bad that she can’t swallow medicine, this could be dangerous. We might have a serious problem if we don’t

act fast. I have a way to bring her temperature down quickly.”
Jonathan and Yvonne turned to him in unison. “What is it?”
Christopher raised an eyebrow and looked at Natalie, lying pale and unconscious. “Give her a fever–reducing shot
Just then, Milo came rushing in, holding a massive syringe.
The needle was huge–almost as thick as a finger.
Yvonne instinctively flinched. “Chris, why is that thing so big?”
“Oh, that’s a livestock needle. Used for pigs, Christopher shrugged. “Still a needle. Does the job.”
He said it like it was no big deal, but he noticed sharply that Natalie, lying there, gave the tiniest little shiver.
