Chapter 6
Kevin fraze for a second, then his brow furrowed:]
“What the hell are you talking about? I never let anyone hurt my mother in law. And suicide? What-“]
His assistant suddenly burst through the door, face white as a sheet:[]
“Mr. Howard. I just called the funeral home. Your wife… she’s there right now. Holding a service for her mother…“]]
“That’s impossible. My mother–in–law was fine yesterday. How could she just suddenly die?!”
The assistant’s hands were shaking as he handed over some photos:
These were taken by someone at the facility… when the old lady died…”
Kevin grabbed them impatiently, then went rigid at the bloody images.[]
“This can’t… I told them to back off. I was just trying to scare Rachel into giving up that drive. Why would…
“Sir, it wasn’t our security team. Word is, Lillian sent some thugs to visit the old woman last night. They were there all night. By morning.
Maria spat at Kevin’s feet:[]
“They took you in when nobody else would. You’d be on the street without them–and you still stabbed them in the back. You’re a damn disgrace.”
Kevin’s mind flashed back to what I’d said at the office today.
So I hadn’t been lying. Mom really was dead. Horribly.
He couldn’t imagine my pain, losing both Sophie and Mom at the same time. And he hadn’t believed me.
Panic seized Kevin’s chest. He didn’t waste time arguing with Maria–just rushed straight to the crematorium.
By the time he got there, Mom had already been cremated.[]
I stood there clutching both urns–my mother, my daughter. Everything I’d ever loved, reduced to ashes.
So this is what it feels like when your w

“Rachel
Kevin called out, his eyes red rimmed, but he didn’t dare come closer.
“Rachel, why did Mom kill herself? And in such a horrible way… I never got the chance to take care of her properly…]
I let out a bitter laugh
“Take care of her? You mean like shoving her head in a microwave?
“It wasn’t me! I swear. I just wanted to scare you. I told them to let her go–you saw that“]
“I know it wasn’t you. It was your precious Lillian.”]
Doubt flickered in Kevin’s eyes:]
“Lilly? Look, she can be clumsy sometimes, but she’s sweet and in
Even now, he was still choosing to believe her.[]
innocent She wouldn’t.“||
I pulled out my phone without expression and showed him the security footage.
After hearing those vile, disgusting words, Kevin’s face went ashen
“Rachel, I’m sorry. I had no idea–D
“Ha. Sorry doesn’t cut it. If you hadn’t spoiled Lillian rotten, would she have dared to hurt my mom? Kevin, you’re the one who started all this!”
“We’re divorced now. From this

Kevin tried to reach for me. Instantly, my bodyguards materialized, pinning him down.
I looked at him coldly:
“What’s wrong. Mr. Howard? Planning to steal the evidence and destroy it again?“]
“I wasn’t… Rachel, who are these guys?”
I smiled without warmth:
“None of your business anymore.“1
“But don’t worry. You’ll see me again soon.
