Connor’s first thought was that the call was a prank. Scammers were everywhere these days. He had even gotten a call before saying his son was kidnapped.
Annoyed, he snapped, “Yeah, my wife and son fell into the river. My whole family is dead. Anything else?”
The officer on the line hesitated, then said again, “We’re from the NYPD 13th Precinct.
“Our investigation shows your wife and son fell into the river near NYU Langone Health today.”

Connor shook the officer nervously and said, “My son just had minor surgery and was discharged! How could they jump from there?”
No one could answer his question.
Suddenly, a harsh thought struck him–a medical accident, his son bleeding badly. A sharp pain hit his chest, and he almost collapsed.
