Chapter 3
“Did you hear that? It’s normal for wounds to bleed after surgery. Stop yelling and remember to pay for the dirty sheets.
“Dr. Ferguson did this surgery under Dr. Johnston’s supervision. How could there be a mistake? We’ve dealt with many unreasonable mothers like you.”
The moment the hydrogen peroxide touched Levi’s wound, his skin and flesh around it shriveled and turned pale.
The nurse even kept poking the delicate wound with tweezers.
Levi was in so much pain that his body convulsed and twisted, but she forced him to lie still. He made a choking sound.
Seeing him suffer so much that he couldn’t even cry, I hit the metal bed frame hard and tried to get up.
“Levi, hang on. I’ll find a way to save you.”
He was only five, supposed to grow up carefree, yet here he lay with his manhood cut off.
It was unbelievable that Connor, the best surgeon in New York, who had saved many with lost limbs, refused to come back to save his son.
As Levi’s struggles grew weaker, I pulled with all my strength and broke my wrist, gritting my teeth through the pain.
Despite the severe pain in my broken hand, I moved slowly to his side and held him close.

“I brought you into this world. No matter what, I won’t give up on you.”
Just as I began to drift, my phone, though with no signal, blinked twice. I squeezed my broken bones hard, using the pain to keep myself awake.
As long as there was a chance, I would take it.
Dragging my injured hand and crawling on my knees, I finally reached my phone and dialed 911.
“Hello, my son is bleeding badly from a lower–body injury. We’re at NYU Langone Health—”
The operator cut me off coldly.
“Patient transfers need approval from the attending physician. You’re already at the best hospital in New York. Please don’t waste medical resources.”
I felt despair clutch me as I held the phone. Levi’s eyes were wide and unresponsive.
He kept whispering, “Mommy, it hurts so much. Where’s Daddy? Didn’t he say if I was brave, he’d stay with me?“\
My heart shattered when I heard that. I wished I could take the pain for him.
Not knowing what else to do, I rested my forehead against his and whispered, “Don’t sleep, baby. Your daddy will come back soon.”
I had no grand hopes left. I accepted that Levi might never have children. All I wanted was for him to stay alive. He was my whole world.
I slammed the door so hard the glass broke and cut my palm, but I didn’t feel the pain.

Chapter 3
If it meant saving my child, I would gladly die right then.
Maybe God heard my prayers.
The door cracked open slightly. I tried to crawl through but saw only a cleaner’s hurried back.
I knew that was all she could do. She helped me probably because I always saved empty bottles for her.
With my broken wrist, I crawled forward on my elbows until my skin and flesh wore away, exposing bone.
I dragged myself on, leaving a trail of blood behind.
Finally, a pair of leather shoes stopped in front of me.
I grabbed the leg of the pants without caring about anything and kept muttering, “Please save my son…”
After that, I passed out.
When I regained consciousness, I thought Levi was being treated.
Unexpectedly, he was tossed carelessly into the medical waste, lying dirty and bent.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain on my scalp as someone grabbed my hair and forced me to look up.
“Are you the one who said my daughter had an accident during surgery? Looks like you came here just to cause trouble!”
