Right then, I had only one thing on my mind–saving Levi.
Connor paused for a moment on the phone. He knew I wouldn’t joke about my son.
“Alright, hold on, I’ll—”
But before he could finish, Minnie Ferguson’s flirtatious voice interrupted.
“Connor, are you doubting my skills?
“I’m your junior. You taught me. Do you not trust me or yourself?”
Minnie was indeed his intern, but she had switched from studying administration and had never worked in an operating room before.
Connor’s tone immediately turned icy.
“Stephanie, stop thinking badly. We’re just doing our jobs.
“His manhood was cut off? Might as well say he’s dead. It was only a circumcision. You’re even cursing your son to frame Minnie. You’re so pathetic!”
“Stephanie is just worried. Connor, what do you think of this lace underwear? Buy it and bring it back to calm her down.”
I felt like collapsing. Levi was in danger, yet my husband was busy choosing lingerie with another woman. How was that an official matter requiring him to shop for underwear?

After he hung up, the nurse walked away with contempt, probably thinking I was just a jealous, crazy wife.

Levi began shaking badly from infection and fever after the surgery. I wanted to hold him, but I feared hurting him, so I kept trying to cool him down by pressing cold cloths on him repeatedly.
He made weak, broken breaths.
“Daddy, am I brave?”
At that moment, I broke down crying. After three years of IVF, Levi was my precious child, so I always treated him carefully. But Connor never liked Levi because of his gentle nature.
Levi had agreed to the surgery because he remembered his father’s words
to be brave.
“It’s my fault. I’m sorry.”

Levi saw me crying and tried to wipe my tears. But when he moved, he suddenly started bleeding badly. The sheets beneath him soaked up blood immediately.
I panicked, dropping my shoes as I rushed to the door. I pounded on it for help again.
Luckily, the nurse on duty returned.
Before I could explain, several large men appeared behind her.
“This woman is crazy. She’s been lying to us all night. Dr. Johnston says she’s mentally unstable. Just do what you want.”
The men smiled evilly as they roughly grabbed me, tied me to the bed, and stretched me out.

They even took the chance to grope me, pinching my thighs until they bruised.

My wrists were bleeding and tied tightly. I couldn’t move, only nodding my head toward Levi to get the nurse’s attention.
“My son is bleeding badly. If he doesn’t get treatment soon, he’ll die. Please find a doctor!”
They gave me a sedative, and I slammed my head against the metal bed frame. The sharp pain, mixed with tears and blood, was the only thing keeping me awake.
When the nurse saw the bedsheet beneath Levi stained dark with blood, her legs weakened, and she hurriedly called Connor.
“Dr. Johnston, you need to come back and check on him. The child has
lost a lot of blood.”
Connor sighed with irritation. “Isn’t bleeding normal after surgery? Don’t you have any common sense? If you can’t handle it, just leave.
“And if that woman causes more trouble, kick her out.”
After the call ended, I looked at the nurse with hope, wishing she would stop Levi’s bleeding.
But instead, she pinched her nose, glanced coldly at me from afar, and walked away. She grabbed a bottle of hydrogen peroxide from the cabinet, opened it, and poured it onto Levi.
