Chapter 7
The news caused an uproar.
Victoria, who had just woken up, was about to faint again.
Everyone in the exclusive society knew Benjamin had been abroad for three months and just returned yesterday.
And his wife Sophia had been waiting at home for him for three months.
Victoria struggled to sit up and asked the family doctor: “How many months?”
The family doctor looked awkwardly at Benjamin’s expression, closed his eyes and blurted it out.
“Just twenty days.”
Victoria took a deep breath and fainted again.
Now everyone looked at Benjamin with not just teasing, but a hint of pity in their eyes.
Watching Alexander’s bewildered and terrified expression, I suddenly. understood the truth.
It wasn’t just this encounter today between Alexander and Sophia.
Sophia had been with another man before this, and that man wasn’t Alexander.
She must have known she was carrying another man’s child but didn’t dare get rid of it secretly.

Her plan was to spend tonight with Benjamin and pass the child off as
his.
But at the banquet, she spotted Alexander under the influence of hallucinogens and had a momentary lapse of judgment.

She figured even if Benjamin later discovered the child wasn’t his, she could pin the blame on Alexander without exposing the man behind her who absolutely must not be exposed.
I could figure this out, and Benjamin could certainly figure it out too.
His fist clenched at his side trembled slightly, radiating visible fury.
Benjamin and Sophia’s romance was once hailed as a beautiful love story in the exclusive society.
At that moment, my father zoomed in on the surveillance footage and displayed it before everyone.
The footage clearly showed me taking a glass of wine from that servant. But after Alexander took it, he didn’t even take a sip–just casually placed it on the table.
After me, Shakti took another glass from the servant.
The surveillance clearly captured Shakti pulling a tiny pill from her necklace, tossing it into the wineglass, then handing that glass to Alexander.
Alexander took it, drained it in one gulp, and smiled as he started chatting with Shakti.
The glass of wine I handed Alexander back then still sits alone on the hall table.

Chapter 7
Several socialites close to me looked at me with sympathy.
Even as an unwilling participant, my reputation would inevitably suffer from this scandal.
“My God, Emily’s misfortune is heartbreaking. That Ms. Johnson is the real culprit.”
“Tsk tsk tsk, how vicious. Does she fancy Alexander and want him for herself?”
Amidst the whispers, Shakti collapsed to the ground, murmuring: “It wasn’t me… not me… I didn’t drug it.”
“It was you! Why would you ruin me, Shakti!”
The furious roar snapped Shakti back to reality.
She turned her head in a daze and saw Alexander–the man who’d promised to marry her and make her a real socialite-
glaring at her with pure hatred.
Meanwhile, Emily, who should’ve been utterly disgraced, stood there perfectly composed, witnessing her humiliation.
Shakti let out a shattered scream. Pointing at Alexander’s face, she cursed through tearful laughter:
“How dare you claim ignorance of everything?”
“Wasn’t it you who said ruining Emily’s reputation would let you seize the Reynolds fortune and marry me?”
“I did it all for you! You knew I drugged you–yet you drank it anyway!”
