Chapter 6
Nathan’s face darkened at her words and he stopped wasting time, pushing past her toward the door.
Rebecca went completely ballistic, grabbing his shirt collar and pointing at her face: “She beat me up like this and you’re just going to forgive her?”
“She’s my wife.” Nathan’s eyes fell on the marks as he spoke quietly: “If you hadn’t kept provoking her over and over, why would she have hit you?”
Rebecca’s head was spinning–she couldn’t believe these words were coming from him. Where was the Nathan who used to shield her from everything, who would stand by her side no matter what?]
Tears welled up in her eyes as her voice turned pitiful: “You’ve changed! You weren’t like this before.“[]
Before, they never cared about reasons because she was everything to them. But now, even though Nathan and Hunter still seemed to favor her, their actions showed they actually cared about that bitch!
What was so special about that bitch who’d ruined her life? Before eighteen, she’d been a princess who never worried about anything. After eighteen, she’d fallen into hell while even people who used to grovel at her feet kicked her when she was down.]
If it wasn’t meant to be hers, why had she been given it in the first place? And if she’d been given it, why couldn’t she have it forever?]
Years of resentment burned in her heart as Rebecca poured out all her grievances.[]
Nathan laughed bitterly: “You think you’re unlucky? What about Jessica? Isn’t she unlucky too?”
“Your scumbag parents stole the family that was rightfully hers, and she suffered eighteen years for nothing.“]
“You went from rags to riches and enjoyed eighteen years of luxury. Instead of being grateful, you resent her for it.“[]
Nathan thought back over the past few years, finding it all increasingly absurd: “What’s the point of your resentment? You’re the one who chose to run off with that race car driver, and you took seven hundred thousand of my money. I’ve done more than enough for you.“]
“I loved you, but so what? I love jessica now too. You’re not as important as you think, and I-“)
He stopped mid–sentence when he saw her face streaming with tears.
Nathan looked away and roughly loosened his tie while Hunter wearily rubbed his face and pulled Rebecca into his arms.
“Rebecca, you need to grow up. No one will tolerate you forever–everyone has limits.“]
Rebecca was still furious: “Why won’t you just admit you’ve changed? You obviously-“]
Hunter cut her off: “There’s no ‘why.‘ Changed or not, nobody owes you anything. There’s no rule that says people can’t change. You’ve changed too, haven’t you?“]]
“You’ve become selfish and manipulative, constantly lying. I barely recognize you anymore, but I still consider you my sister. People can’t live in the past forever, trapped in imaginary grievances.“]]
Hunter looked at her deeply, hoping the sister he’d protected for eighteen years would understand his intentions.
But he was disappointed. Rebecca just stared at him with hatred and sneered: “Don’t lecture me! I only believe what I see with my own eyes. If you’re going to side with that bitch Jessica, just say so. I always knew your kindness was fake!“]
“I don’t care–if you dare go look for her today, you’ll never see me again!“[]
Rebecca’s screams echoed through every corner of the house.]
Nathan’s face went ashen as le coldly laughed and pushed past her, with Hunter following right behind, completely disappointed.
Rebecca stood there stunned, and by the time she snapped out of it, both men had vanished.[]
It was already dark–seven hours since Jessica had left. Nathan had never felt such panic as his fingers trembled slightly.[]
When his thirtieth call still went unanswered, he suddenly slapped himself hard.]
Hinter jumped and grabbed his hand: “Don’t do that. Jessica’s sensible–she’ll be fine.“[]
Nathan wasn’t comforted at all and became even more distraught: “It’s all my fault. How could I say such horrible things to her? I knew those monsters were her biggest trauma, but I still used it against her.“[
Guilt flashed across Hunter’s face too, but just as he was about to speak, his phone rang
His assistant had good news: “Mr. Castillo, we found Miss Valence…”
Both men froze when they heard the address.[]
