Chapter 10
Delilah glared at me and pointed right at my nose: “Scared now, aren’t you, little bitch? Apologize to our Rebecca right now and get the hell out of this house! Remember–she’s the only Castillo daughter. You’re just some country trash-“]
“Enough!” Nathan had reached his breaking point and physically pushed them toward the door. “You bloodsucking parasites! Come back here again and I’ll feed you to the dogs!”
Hunter released his Dobermans, and the two dogs shot out like bullets. Connor and Delilah’s faces twisted in terror as they ran for their lives.
Rebecca’s smug expression instantly froze as she stamped her feet in rage: “Call the dogs off!”
“You’re humiliating me like this for that little bitch–do you want me dead?!”
She had zero affection for the Valences–she’d only brought them to make me miserable. But this outcome clearly wasn’t what she’d planned.]]
Nathan and Hunter just watched coldly as she panicked. Soon Delilah’s screams filled the air as both dogs latched onto her leg, shaking their heads viciously.[]
Connor, the coward, had already abandoned his wife and run off. Rebecca had promised them five thousand dollars if they succeeded, but apparently his life was worth

more.
Hunter called off the dogs and had medical staff bandage Delilah’s wounds. Even as she was carried past me on a stretcher, her face white with pain, she still stared at me with venom: “Little bitch, enjoying watching me get bit? Just wait till I’m better–I’ll teach you a lesson! You little bastard, laughing at your mother, I’ll fucking–OW!“]
Before she could finish, I slapped her hard across the face.
The room fell dead silent as Delilah stared at me in shock: “You little bit–OW!”
I slapped her again before she could finish. Her face turned bright red and her arrogance visibly deflated.
When I raised my hand again, the immediately begged in a trembling voice: “Stop, please stop…“]]
I smiled and slowly lowered my shaking hand. From this moment on, no one would ever be able to bully me again.
Rebecca rushed over to get revenge for those slaps, but before she could touch me, Nathan and Hunter instinctively pushed her away.]]
Rebecca hit the ground hard and looked up at them through her tears, but they were only looking at me with concern.]
I shook my head and stepped away from them both.
Rebecca completely broke down–she could handle being hurt and suffering, but seeing the people she loved most caring about me was worse than death.
She shakily got to her feet, stared at me for a few seconds, then turned and walked away like a lost soul.[]
Today was supposed to be the welcome home dinner Nathan and Hunter had prepared for me, but everything was ruined. They felt heartbroken and guilty.
I didn’t react much and just sat down to eat my meal while they sat quietly beside me, not daring to speak.[]
The next day, I pulled out my documents: “Let’s go. The sooner we get this done, the sooner we’re both free.“]
Nathan’s heart, which had been hanging by a thread, finally dropped completely. After a long silence, he said hoarsely: “Does it have to be divorce?“]}]
I shot back: “Then what did I come back for? To put up with Rebecca and her parents?“]
Hunter looked at Nathan with sympathy and turned to persuade me: “Jessica, Nathan really is-“]
I cut him off: “Hunter, I hope you won’t interfere in our business.”
Hunter froze as his expression slowly darkened, because he could feel my distance when I used to care so much about what he said.[]
Despite everything, Nathan followed me to the courthouse. The moment he signed his name, he finally broke down crying: “Jessica, don’t delete my number. Give me one more chance, please. I promise I’ll treat you right from now on.”
I didn’t respond or acknowledge Hunter’s outstretched hand trying to help with my luggage. I just took my divorce papers with satisfaction and got into the taxi I’d already called.
My wish was fulfilled–it was time to live my own life.}
