Chapter 9
Slap! Rosalie’s cheek was hit hard.
“Get out!”
Jackson told the housekeeper to throw her out, cut off all her bank cards, and take back everything he had given her.
I watched everything happen and just gasped. Jackson used to love Rosalie deeply, but now he was so harsh, refusing to let her stay.
I was still a bit puzzled about him, but it didn’t matter to me anymore, and I didn’t want to think about it.
He glared at Rosalie with anger, but after letting out his fury, he calmed down and turned to me with a gentle look in his eyes.
“Giselle, I told you, my love only belongs to you.
“How about we go on a vacation? What do you think about traveling around the world?”
I worried that if I stayed quietly here for a few months, Jackson might think I had forgiven him.
I looked at him coldly and stepped back a few times.
“Jackson, it’s time we get a divorce.”
Checking my watch, I said, “We still have time today, let’s go get the divorce papers.”
At first, Jackson’s eyes went wide in shock, then fear spread across his

“Giselle, I’ve cleared up all the problems between us. I won’t force you to let Rosalie live in our house anymore. This house is only for the two of
- us.
“You’ve been calmer lately, so why are you still asking for a divorce? Can’t we try again?”
I didn’t look at him.
‘No, Jackson, I’ve been clear–headed about this from the start.
“After everything you put me through, how could I pretend nothing happened and stay with you?”
He shook his head quickly.
“No, I can make things right. I’ll protect you and won’t let you get hurt
anymore.
“Giselle, please, don’t leave me, okay?”
I lost my patience and got angry.
“Jackson, don’t you get it? I want a divorce!
“You can’t let me go, so you want me to stay by your side forever.
“But I don’t love you, I hate you. Being with you hurts me so much. The past keeps playing over and over in my mind!”
I was struggling to breathe.
“Just please, let me go.”
Jackson’s eyes slowly lost their spark, and he looked completely deflated.

After standing there for a long while, he got up in a daze and locked himself in the bedroom like a lifeless shell.
Two days later, he came out on his own.

He looked worn out, with a scruffy beard covering his face, and heavy bags under his tired eyes.
He handed me the divorce papers.
“Giselle, I’m willing to let you go, and all my liquid assets will be yours.”
I took the papers and skimmed through them.
All of Jackson’s available funds, every property he owned here and abroad, were given to me. He would be left with nothing.
“Let’s go to the courthouse,” I said.
After leaving the courthouse, I booked a flight to Vermont for that same day.
I planned to settle in a small town nearby, somewhere quiet, where no one would recognize me.
I didn’t say a word to Jackson, but he kept staring at my back for a long
time.
After getting off the plane, I spent a long time watching the latest news updates.
Jackson took his own life by jumping off a building the night we divorced.
Before he jumped, he kept mumbling, “I want to feel the pain Giselle went through back then. She must have suffered a lot.”

He fell from the 18th floor and died instantly.

I turned off my phone screen without showing any emotion, just thinking that he brought this on himself.
A ray of sunset light from the airport shone on me, draping my body in a golden glow.
No matter how difficult things get, life must go on.
