Chapter 14
Lillian clung to Catherine’s sleeve like a drowning person reaching for a lifeline.
“Mom, it wasn’t me. You have to believe me.”
Catherine looked at the evidence Sebastian had handed her, each word like a slap in the face. The
truth laid bare in black and white.
“Lillian… did you really do all this?”
Lillian’s only leverage in this house was the affection they’d always shown her. All she wanted now
was to cover it all up and make it disappear.
“No, Mom. I swear I didn’t.”
“These are lies. Olivia’s framing me–I didn’t do any of this!”
There was hesitation in Catherine’s eyes..
But Ethan didn’t give her another second to explain. He kicked Lillian hard in the chest.
She slammed into the wall. Pain exploded through her ribs, as if her chest had been shattered.
“After all this, you still want to lie?!??
“I’ve already investigated everything. I know exactly what you did!”
Catherine’s hand, which had reached out instinctively to protect her, slowly dropped back to her side. The way she looked at Lillian had changed, no longer full of tenderness. Instead, there was
disappointment. Even a trace of resentment.
Lillian looked up at them and realized it was over.
“What is the truth behind everything?” The cold, piercing voice echoed in Lillian’s ears, sending a shiver down her spine. She trembled and finally broke down, unable to hide anything anymore. Her face was soaked with tears.
“It was me. I wanted to drive Olivia to her death,” she cried, “so I could take her place in the Sinclair family.‘
The weight she had carried in her heart seemed to finally lift.
But instead of relief, Ethan’s jaw tightened, his eyes turning even redder.

He gritted his teeth and pushed further. “What else?”
Between sobs, Lillian confessed everything. With every word, Ethan’s heart sank deeper.
“It was all me. Everything. I did it all.”
“Olivia never bullied me. The fall from the window? Fake. The assault? I made it all up. I planned
everything. I framed her.”
She didn’t dare lie anymore. The fear of death hung so heavily over her that she forgot to preserve
even the last shreds of her image. As she poured it all out, watching the growing anger and disgust
on their faces, the panic inside her only intensified.
“But listen to me, I did it all because of you guys!”
Catherine’s body trembled with fury as she heard this.
“You’re saying you did this for us? You killed my daughter in the name of love?!”
Lillian dropped to her knees and crawled toward her, lifting her tear–streaked face.
“I grew up in an orphanage. When I got to live here, I was so happy. I just… wanted your attention. I wanted all of it. That’s why I did those things.”
“And besides… you didn’t like Olivia either, did you?”
“Even if I hadn’t framed her, she would’ve died from cancer anyway. Can’t we just pretend none of this happened?”
“We can go back to how things used to be. We’re still a family, right?”
Her words left everyone in the room stunned.
Catherine finally broke down in sobs. For the first time in her life, she lost all composure. She pointed a shaking finger at Lillian as she cried.
“I can’t believe that’s how you think. Even now–you feel no remorse.”
“I regret one thing,” she choked out. “Bringing you into this home. Raising you to become this heartless, soulless thing that killed my own daughter.”
Sebastian snapped, “Everything the Sinclair family gave you wasn’t enough? And now you’ve
descended into this delusion?”

…
Lillian turned her eyes to Ethan. “Ethan… you love me, don’t you? I know I messed up. I’ll apologize. To them, to Olivia–I’ll do it. But I really do love you.”
“You love me too, right?”
She thought her heartfelt confession might soften him.
But Ethan’s expression only darkened. His gaze was colder than ever, laced with revulsion.
“You think what I felt for you wasn’t built on your lies? On the traps you set for Olivia?”
He looked at her like she was something vile as he spat the words at her. “Every mistake I made, I made because of your lies. A woman as malicious as you is truly revolting.”
The raw contempt in Ethan’s eyes pierced through Lillian’s heart like a knife. Her tears, for once,
were genuine.
“No… Ethan, I really love you. You said you loved me too, didn’t you?”
His past confession had become her final lifeline.
