Chapter 6
When Violet’s eyes fluttered open, she found herself in a hospital room.
The doctor looked at her with sympathy and said, “Ma’am, you haven’t eaten for several days, and your body wasn’t able to sustain the pregnancy. I’m very sorry, but your baby… didn’t make it.”
Instinctively, Violet’s hand went to her lower the tiny life that had just begun

was now gone.
Silent tears streamed down her face. Maybe the baby had somehow sensed their parents were drifting apart and chose to leave early.
“Where is your husband?” the doctor asked. “He should be here to support you. Your

body needs time to heal.”
Violet took a deep breath and steadied herself. “I don’t have a husband,” she replied flatly. Then she asked, “How soon can I leave the hospital?”
She wanted out as quickly as possible.
“Three days.”
Violet nodded. Three days–just enough time for Xavier to come pick her up. That would do.
Before they could say more, the ward door swung open. Gabriel rushed in, clearly out of breath from hurrying over.
“What are you doing here?” Violet asked.
The driver accompanying him was about to

explain, but Violet interrupted, “I hadn’t eaten in days, my body gave out, and I fainted.”
Ruby scoffed from the corner, “Vivi, you never had a privileged childhood. How did you get so weak?”
Gabriel glanced at Violet, who looked fragile and pale. His anger from recent days softened, and his voice lost some of its edge.
“When did you get so stubborn? Admitting fault wouldn’t have killed you. If you were feeling bad, why didn’t you call me?” His tone carried a hint of reproach.
Violet stared back quietly, bitterness simmering inside her.
‘Call him?‘

He had been too busy with Ruby, even refusing to let her eat as punishment. Calling him would only invite more humiliation. What was the point?
Since she was leaving soon anyway, she didn’t want to stir things up. Instead, she gave a simple excuse.
“You were busy. I didn’t want to bother you.”
Gabriel’s face flickered with guilt at her words.
Maybe realizing he’d gone too far, he started visiting the hospital daily.
On the day she was discharged, Violet spent the morning texting Xavier.
Gabriel noticed how unlike her it was to be glued to her phone lately.

“Vivi, who are you texting?” he asked, reaching for her phone.
She pulled it away quickly. “Do you really want to read a girl’s private messages?”
Gabriel withdrew his hand. “Enough with the phone. We’re going home soon.”
“Mhm.”
Though he had been kind these days, Violet knew it was only guilt driving his behavior.
After dropping her off, Gabriel left without another word.
Violet went into the study, opened the safe, and placed the hospital report on her miscarriage inside.

She pulled out her notebook and wrote one final entry:
[100th disappointment: My baby is gone.]
She closed the book after the last stroke.
A divorce agreement, a resignation letter, a miscarriage report, and one hundred painful memories
That was the wedding anniversary present she was leaving for Gabriel.
After tidying up, she packed her suitcase, left the villa keys on the dining table, and erased her fingerprint from the smart lock.
She wiped away every trace of herself from the villa completely.
