Chapter 7
I opened my mouth to speak-
But before I could say a word, he pulled me into a crushing embrace.
“Thank God… you’re alive… You have no idea how much I’ve regretted everything–how guilty I’ve been…”
I shoved him off with effort, disgust thick in my voice.
“Even if I’m alive, it has nothing to do with you anymore.”
He thought I was angry because he’d handed me over to the lab. He rushed to explain.
“No–it’s not like that! Marcus promised me he wouldn’t hurt you. That’s the only reason I agreed to it!”
“But you don’t need to worry anymore. I got justice for you. Isabelle’s locked in a circus cage now again.”
I let out a cold laugh.
“And what does that fix? My child is still gone. The damage is done. You think sorry?”

“Even if you know I’m alive… treat me like I’m dead. The debt I owed you from the past–consider it paid in full.”
Graham panicked, his fingers latching onto the edge of my coat, knuckles turning white.
“No, please… I know I was wrong! I haven’t repaid what I owe you. Punish me however you want–but let me make this right…” Something clicked in my mind.
I yanked my arm free and smiled without warmth.
“You’re right. You do owe me. Because from the very beginning, you only got close to me for one reason–to save Isabelle.” Graham went pale.
his body swaying as if the very bones had been ripped from his flesh.
“You… you knew?”
His voice trembled.
I stared at him, silent.
Let the silence cut him like glass.
“At first, yes…” he said hoarsely. “But when it came down to it… I hesitated. I really did…”
“Enough!”
I snapped, my voice sharp as a whip.
“Did your hesitation bring my baby back? Did your guilt undo what you did to me?”
My nails bit deep into my palm.
“Would a murderer be forgiven just because he paused before pulling the trigger?”
“The baby’s gone. So is everything between us.”
He stepped forward again—but was yanked back by a sudden force.
And in the next moment, I was wrapped in someone else’s arms.

A steady embrace. Warm, safe.
The faint scent of antiseptic calmed me instantly.
“Sorry I’m late,” came Marcus’s voice above my head.
Another voice, furious and stunned, cut in.
“Marcus?!”
“What the hell are you doing here?!”
Graham’s gaze dropped to our joined hands.
I gave up
And in that instant–he understood everything.
His face twisted with rage.
“Of course. You’ve been after her this whole time. You’re the one who fed me those lies, to think she was gone so you could steal her for yourself!”

Marcus gave a low chuckle, tightening his grip on my hand.
“And what if I did?”
“You already have Isabelle. Taking Skylar off your hands only makes things easier for everyone.

“Shut the hell up!” Graham roared. “There’s nothing between me and Isabelle! Skylar is the only woman I’ve ever loved!” “You stole her from me. You’ll pay for that–I swear I’ll kill you!”
He lunged.
I moved quickly, stepping in front of Marcus and grabbing his wrist to protect him.
“That’s enough!”
Seeing me shield Marcus only made Graham more frantic.
“Skylar! He doesn’t care about you! Have you forgotten he tried to buy you at that auction?! He wanted you for research! I’m the one who saved you in the end!”
I turned to look at Marcus.
He opened his mouth, clearly wanting to explain-
But i had already turned back to Graham.
“Is that so?”
Graham’s eyes lit up. He nodded eagerly.
“Yes! If you just give me another chance, I swear I’ll treat you right. I’ll never hurt you again.”
I clenched my jaw, hard.
“All I remember… is you dragging me into a new hell the moment you ‘saved‘ me.”
“Marcus helped me escape. You just replaced one cage with another.”
“If you really want to atone, then suffer everything you put me and my child through”
“Otherwise get the hell out of my life.”
