Chapter 8
Sawyer replayed everything in his mind.
The more he thought about it, the more unwilling he became.
He figured I was just angry about Quinn and him.
He tried putting himself in my shoes, thinking if it were him, he might react even more intensely.
So he frantically called me, camped outside my company to corner me.
Finally I got so fed up, I posted Sawyer’s photo on every floor of my company.
The photos had prominent red text:
ISAWYER BLAKE AND DOGS NOT ALLOWED]
A colleague posted it online.
Made Sawyer go viral again.
When he finally couldn’t find me anywhere, he could only seek out Quinn, wanting to bring her to apologize with him.
He forced his way into the guesthouse Quinn was temporarily renting.
The room recked of vomit and instant noodles.
Quinn sat at her vanity mirror, seemingly touching up her makeup, and she was wearing a dress Sawyer had given her.
Large portions of her back exposed, dressed like this in the middle of the night–what she was planning was obvious.
When Sawyer realized what was happening, he flew into a rage.
For this woman who only cared about pleasure and was willing to sell her body, he’d destroyed his marriage and career.
When Quinn saw the gaunt but furious Sawyer, she no longer felt any admiration or attachment–only deep–seated resentment and disgust.
“What are you doing here? Come to laugh at me? Thanks to you, I have nothing left now!”
“No license, ruined reputation, no job, can’t even go home!”
“Everyone’s calling me a homewrecker who slept her way up. If you hadn’t pulled those stunts, would I be like this?!”
Quinn’s voice was hoarse, full of viciousness.
Chapter 8
“Blame me?”
Sawyer acted like he’d heard the joke of the century, his voice rising shrilly.
“Quinn Rivers! Put your hand on your heart! Without me, could you have gotten into a top firm? Could you have landed that
kind of case?”
“Could you have gotten famous online? Without me paying people off, could you have covered up all your messes?!”
“Now that things went wrong, you’re pinning everything on me? What the hell are you!”
Quinn, intoxicated by alcohol and fury, completely dropped all pretense, pointing at Sawyer’s nose and cursing.
“You really think I gave a damn about you, old man? If it wasn’t for your money, power, and usefulness, you think I’d be with you?”
“Great! Now you’re disgraced and broke, and you dragged me to hell with you!”
“Get out! Get the hell out!”
Her words triggered Sawyer.
Made him completely lose his mind.
All the long–suppressed resentment, unwillingness, fear, and rage at being deceived erupted in that moment.
“I’ll show you what using me gets you! I’ll show you what insulting me gets you!”
Without the slightest hesitation, he grabbed the wine bottle off the table and smashed it against the table with a crack.
Under Quinn’s shocked gaze, he used all his strength to viciously stab her in the waist and abdomen.
Quinn never imagined Sawyer would actually attack her.
A piercing scream that cracked with agony tore through the night.
The sharp glass plunged deep into Quinn’s abdomen.
Warm blood instantly gushed out, staining Quinn’s clothes, the sofa, and the filthy floor red.
Quinn collapsed and curled up in severe pain, her body convulsing violently.
Her complexion turned paper–white at a visible rate, making wheezing sounds,
Sawyer gripped the bloody wine bottle, looking at the gruesome scene and his blood–covered hands.
He stood there like a soul had been drained from his body.
The bottle clattered to the ground in the pool of blood.
Chapter 8
Then he picked up the phone and called the police himself.
When police broke down the door, they rushed the unconscious Quinn to the hospital, and arrested Sawyer.
Combined with my previous charges of embezzlement, identity theft and other economic crimes, plus his violations of legal ethics by suborning perjury, with multiple charges combined–a long prison sentence awaited him.
And Quinn’s uterus was punctured and had to be removed.
But before long, she was thrown out because she couldn’t afford the follow–up medical expenses.
Post–surgical complications left her permanently disabled.
