Chapter 4
My guy arrived the next day. After handing over the case, I went back to my office to handle the financial mess.
Sawyer wasn’t sitting idle either.
First, he used his industry connections to warn every law firm not to take my case.
Then he had people go to my hot springs resort to collect evidence.
He put all his attention on Quinn’s case.
Completely ignored the whole stealing money from my company thing.
Actually worked in my favor.
The lawyer I hired was Sawyer’s college classmate.
Back in school, they called him “The Demon–Sawyer was always second place to this guy.
Soon as he arrived, he spotted the holes in the hot springs case.
He broke down all of Sawyer’s behind–the–scenes manipulations.
To build Quinn’s reputation, Sawyer first had the victim’s family create a scene at the resort.
Then he used online outrage to pit the resort against the victims..
Step by step, forcing the resort to settle.
But the crucial detail? The victim had concealed his high blood pressure.
The resort clearly stated that people with hypertension couldn’t use the hot springs.
And Sawyer, just to hand Quinn a win, used his personal connections to bury the patient’s medical records.
He conspired with the victim’s family–nobody mentioned the medical history.
When the court did their fact–checking, naturally they missed this crucial evidence.
During trial, Sawyer played the sympathetic defender of the underdog, putting up a weak defense on purpose.
Of course I was going to lose.
After uncoverin
the whole truth, my lawyer let out a deep sigh.
“Sawyer’s an idiot. Once this gets overturned, his career is finished.”
Chapter 4
“Who the hell is this woman that’s worth him gambling everything?”
I paused.
I honestly didn’t know how to answer that.
Facing the truth. I wanted to ask the same question.
What exactly was their relationship? Was it worth all this?
After college, Sawyer’s first job was as in–house counsel for my company,
My first impression of him was that despite being young, he had rock–solid principles and was meticulous about his work.
Bold but careful. Didn’t fear the bosses, didn’t fear me.
But in his personal life, he was the shy type,
I was deeply attracted to those contradictions. I supported him every step of the way to where he is today.
I’d seen him fight tooth and nail for plaintiffs.
Seen him stand firm defending the law.
But I’d never seen him like this–blindly protecting someone else.
Seeing my long silence, the lawyer suddenly asked:
“Do you want me to win or lose?”
I stared at him in shock.
I immediately understood why he was asking
He thought I still had feelings for Sawyer.
“Of course I want to
to win
He smiled and joked:
“Your expression had me worried there. I really don’t want my first loss to be against Sawyer Blake.”
The mood lightened considerably.
I smiled mysteriously.
The gift I’m sending is about to arrive. Too bad I won’t be there to see his reaction.”
My assistant had just gone to pick up the divorce papers.
In two hours, those papers would be delivered straight to Sawyer.
He still had no clue when he’d signed the divorce agreement.
Otherwise, how would he dare withdraw money using my name?
I couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he got those papers.
I was getting more excited about the trial by the minute.
