Chapter 3
Sawyer looked pained and started yelling at me.
“Aria, have you lost your damn mind? I should call the cops and have you arrested!”
I turned off the engine and rolled down my window.
Before I could say anything. Quinn grabbed Sawyer’s hand.
“Sawyer, Ms. Channing is just upset with me. Don’t call the police–it’ll hurt her reputation.”
I let out a cold laugh, staring at Quinn’s flushed face.
“Your acting sucks. Right now you should be pale as a ghost, tears streaming down your face.”
“This whole perfectly fine‘ thing you’re doing? Wrong vibe entirely.”
I added some clicking sounds for emphasis.
Quinn looked down, staying quiet.
But Sawyer couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
“Aria, what the hell is wrong with you? So you lost one case does that mean you have to act like a rabid dog?
“We’re all adults here. Can’t you keep some dignity?”
Who’s the one without dignity here?
These two and their twisted logic actually amazed me.
I was done wasting time on them.
I slapped a legal notice right across Sawyer’s face.
“Didn’t Attorney Blake have a perfect record? Surely you won’t lose your own case, right?”
“Oh wait, I forgot–you already lost to Attorney Rivers. Maybe Quinn should handle your case instead?”
Before Sawyer could read what was on the papers, I tossed another document out the window.
“Maybe… Quinn’s not available either. Since I’m appealing my last case, she’ll be too busy with her defense, won’t she?”
I snorted, started the car again, and peeled out.
When I took the turn, Quinn caught a mouthful of exhaust fumes.
Chapter 3
She kept coughing, finally managing to produce some real tears this time.
She looked up at Sawyer helplessly.
“Sawyer, what do we do now?”
Sawyer looked contemptuous as he crumpled both papers and tossed them in a nearby trash can.
“I’ve never lost a case in my life, and I’m not starting now.”
