Chapter 80
As Steve left the presence of Alpha Marcus and Beta Richard,
and made his way out of the palace, some drivers were waiting
for him in the compound.
“Are you ready to leave sir?” The driver asked him as Steve got
closer.
“Yes, why?” Steve inquired, because he didn’t know why the
driver was asking him such a question.
“I have been told to drop you at home, sir.”
“Uh, is that really necessary?” Steve inquired, with a puzzled
look on his face.
“Yes it is, sir.” The driver answered him.
“No, I don’t think that will be necessary. I just want to be on my
own right now.” Steve stated, and turned away from the driver,
trying to leave.
“I understand sir, but I’m sorry, that was the instruction that I
was given, sir.” The driver was persistent, and so Steve turned
back to him.
Chapter 80
“There are still very few members of the pack loitering around.
We don’t want them reacting to you negatively, because they have heard what happened and tongues are wagging already.” He revealed, his tone barely above a whisper.
Hearing this, Steve sighed, “Alright, thank you.”
The driver opened the car’s door and Steve got in. The drive
back to his house then began. Throughout the drive, his mind
wasn’t settled. He couldn’t get his mind off Veronica.
“What would she be doing right now? How would she be
feeling?” He kept asking himself in his heart.
“What would she think of me now that she has found out that
I’m the Alpha’s son?” He thought again, “She seemed really
shocked and disappointed. I’m sure she would find it difficult to
trust me again.” He sighed, mad at himself.
“I don’t know what decision father has made about her. I don’t
know if he is going to decide to keep her or send her away like
he threatened.” He continued, getting worried about Veronica’s
fate.
He then suddenly remembered Megan, and the fact that he had
revealed it to the council that she knew about Veronica, with
her father on seat.
Chapter 80
“There’s Megan too.” He closed his eyes, and tilted his head
backwards as his frustration intensified.
He had noticed the look on the faces of the other council
members, which was a look of scorn. He could have sworn that
they would definitely have a swell time, mocking Councillor
Maxwell for being an irresponsible father, not knowing what his daughter was capable of doing, when they knew he was out
of sight.
“She definitely would have gotten into trouble with her dad. There is no doubt about it. Her dad didn’t look too pleased to find
out that his daughter was an accomplice. Especially after he had confidently assured the council that his daughter had no hand
in it.”
“Should I just go to her house to check on her?” He asked himself, but immediately shoved the thought off. “That will be a terrible
idea, I don’t think her father will like that after everything I
have done. I am the one who brought this up on his daughter
after all.” He continued, still lost in the pool of his many
thoughts.
“I guess I’ll just call her when I get home. Hopefully her phone
has not been taken away from her completely.” He added and
sighed, fed up.
“What the hell have I gotten myself into! What have I done?!” He
Chapter 80
hissed slightly, still with his head backwards and his eyes closed,
disappointed in himself and devastated.
The driver, although hearing Steve hiss, knew better than to ask
him any questions. He could only glance at him at intervals
from the rear–view mirror as he drove in silence.
Steve was still lost in his thoughts that he didn’t realize that the
car had stopped moving. Seeing that Steve didn’t move despite
the fact that they had gotten to his house, the driver decided to
do something.
“Sir? Sir?” The driver called his attention, but he still didn’t
respond, because he was too far away in his thoughts.
“Sir!” The driver called out, louder and he jerked, snapping out of
his thoughts.
“What is it?” Steve asked, displeased that he was disturbed.
“We are here, sir.” The driver answered, and Steve looked
around and saw that they had indeed gotten to his house.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I had a lot on my mind. Thank you.” He replied,
and before the driver could get out of the car to help him open
the door, Steve opened the door and got out.
He waved at the driver and then walked into his house in a
hurry before the people began to notice his arrival.
Chapter 80
As soon as he got into the house, he searched for his phone, turned it on, and immediately began to dial Megan’s number to at least know how she was doing, but no matter how he tried,
the call wasn’t connecting.
He tried texting her, but got no response too. He knew it could only be because of one thing- her father must have confiscated
her phone.
“Damn!” He kicked the air in frustration and flung his phone to
the couch. He then began to pace, thinking of what to do next.
While he was at it, he noticed his phone turned on with a
notification. He ignored it at first, but when it popped up with
another notification, he decided to check.
He walked towards the couch and picked his phone, which was
already halfway stuck in between the couches.
He unlocked, checked through and saw a message from an
unsaved number, which read, “Hi.”
At first, he wanted to ignore it because the message had no
concrete details, but he decided to check the second message
from the same number.
The second message read, “Hi Steve, it’s me, Megan.”
Seeing that it was a message from Megan, who he had been
Chapter 80
trying to reach, he hurriedly began to type his
response.
“Megan? What is going on? I’ve been trying to reach you, all to
no avail. I’ve called countlessly and texted too, yet nothing.” He
sent it as soon as he was done and in a few seconds, he got a
response from her.
“My dad found out about my involvement in Veronica’s
situation. He is really mad at me and has seized my gadgets. I’m
grounded, Steve! And he said I’m still going to be punished.” She
replied, with a few crying emojis.
“Oh no. I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. I’m so sorry for dragging
you into this mess. I really am.” Steve apologized to her.
“It’s fine. I knew it was going to happen anyway. What about
Veronica? What is going to happen to her now? Is she with
you?” She asked, and Steve could tell that she was really
worried.
“No, she is not with me. Beta Richard took her to his house. The
Alpha will pass his judgement in two days, so we have to go
back to the palace in the next two days. I’m really worried, I
don’t know what her fate will be. I’m afraid he might send her
away from the pack.” Steve sent another response.
“Oh no. That’s scary. I’m sorry I can’t help because my dad
wouldn’t even listen to me.” Megan quickly replied again.
Chapter 80
“It’s fine. I understand.” Steve typed his response.
“Let’s just hope that his judgement will be in her favour, and she won’t be sent away.” Megan replied.
“Yeah, I guess that’s all we can do right now. But whose number is this?” He asked, wondering whose number and phone it was that she was using to communicate with him.
“It’s for one of the maids. I had to beg her to lend it to me so that I could talk to you. I can’t call you because my dad will definitely kill me if he finds out that I’m using a phone after he has seized
mine.”
“Oh, that’s fine. I understand.” Steve replied.
“We’ll see in two days at the palace then. My dad says I have to appear before the Alpha too.” She informed him, with a ‘rolling
eyes‘ emoji.
“I have to go now. Please don’t send a message anymore. I have
to delete it all now so that I don’t get myself and the maid into
trouble. Bye for now.” She added, and Steve sighed as he threw
himself onto the couch.
