Chapter 79
ALPHA’S PALACE
Steve and Alpha Marcus remained in silence for a very long while after the whole council had left. Alpha Marcus had a lot to
say to him because he was in no way pleased with what Steve
did, while Steve didn’t really want to speak to him because he
knew that they were going to end up having a
misunderstanding.
Seeing that the silence had lingered for too long, Steve decided to
break the silence. He cleared his throat.
“If there is nothing you have to say to me, I might as well just be
on my way right now.” He said right after clearing his throat
and began to leave after bowing slightly.
Alpha Marcus felt like he couldn’t hear properly. He couldn’t
believe that Steve was still trying to be headstrong after what he
had done.
Shocked by Steve’s words, Alpha Marcus exclaimed, “Have you
actually lost your mind? How dare you try to walk out on me
when I haven’t asked you to leave? Huh?”
“But you weren’t saying anything, we’ve just been in silence
Chapter 79
ever since the meeting with the council was adjourned. What else do you want me to do?” He inquired, looking frustrated.
“You are really unbelievable.” His father said, shaking his head.
“How could you bring a stranger into the pack without my
permission? How did you evade the guards? It beats me. Why
would you do such a thing?”
“She needed help, alright?!” Steve exclaimed, raising his voice,
“she needed help and I was in a position to help at that moment,
and that was exactly what I did. Is that a bad thing now?”
“Yes, it’s a bad thing!” He growled at him, “What if it was a trap?
What if she was actually sent on a mission to ruin us?
”
“But she wasn’t! Why are you making this more complicated
than it really is?”
“More complicated? Are you kidding me right now? Anything
could have gone wrong and we wouldn’t know. What the hell are you talking about?” He yelled and Steve remained quiet.
“Have you actually thought about that possibility or you were
just blinded by your so–called ‘kind heart‘? The possibilities are
endless! What if she had poisoned or killed you?” He inquired,
angrily.
Steve’s head snapped towards his father, his expression filled
Chapter 79
with shock.
“Yes. She could have killed you and we wouldn’t even know.”
Alpha Marcus reaffirmed, “you should be thankful that I’m not
throwing you into the dungeon again yet.” He hissed.
“You know, I don’t understand you. Why are you just bent on
making things difficult? Why are you so determined to make
very silly decisions?” He continued, but Steve remained silent,
his face twisted in guilt as he thought about the possibility of
what his father was saying.
“But she couldn’t have done that. She… doesn’t look like so…
someone who would-” He stuttered, but before he could finish
speaking, his dad interrupted him.
“Kill? She doesn’t look like someone who would kill? Is that what
you’re trying to say?”
“Yes, she certainly doesn’t look like someone who would kill or
hurt anyone.” He confirmed, with a bit of uncertainty in his
tone.
“You fool! Have you ever seen the word ‘killer‘ written on the
forehead of a killer?” He asked, with a stern look on his face.
“What is wrong with you?”
“You know what? You’re definitely going to be punished for
Chapter 79
what you have done. I assure you.” Alpha Marcus informed him, and Steve nodded, unperturbed, like he already expected it.
“What is going to happen to her now? What are you going to do to her? What will her fate be?” Steve bombarded his father with
questions, which only got him irritated.
“And what has that got to do with you?” He inquired with a
frown. “It is none of your business.” He added.
“I’m sorry but It is actually. It is my business and that’s why I’m
asking.” Steve‘ answered him.
“I was the one who brought her to this pack and so I’m
responsible for anything that happens to her as long as she is in
the pack.” He confirmed, sounding confident.
“If that is the case then, she’ll leave.
“What?! No!” He exclaimed,
“Yes, I guess you’ll be able to put your head in the right place
when I do that. I’ll send her away from this pack.” Alpha Marcus
said coldly, and Steve couldn’t believe his ears.
“You can’t possibly do that.” Steve frowned, his jaws clenched.
“Oh really?” Alpha Marcus raised his brow, “Are you trying to
tell me what to do now?” He inquired, and Steve shook his head.
Chapter 79
“But she has nowhere else to go.” Steve stated, gesturing with his
hands.
“And you know this, how?” Alpha Marcus inquired, with raised
eyebrows.
“She-” Steve was cut off before he could say any more words.
“She told you, right?” Alpha Marcus asked, and Steve nodded.
“Would you just look at that?” He shook his head, unable to
believe how his son was so quick to believe someone he had
never met before.
“You know, I’m beginning to think that there is more to this girl
than we know.” Alpha Marcus commented, narrowing his eyes.
“And what do you mean by that?” Steve asked, his brows furrowed, his eyes focused on his father’s reaction.
“I don’t know. You tell me.” Alpha Marcus shrugged, “I need to know if there is something brewing between you two.” He
continued, with a questioning look on his face.
“What?!” Steve exclaimed, his eyes widened in shock. “How can you say a thing like that?” He asked, his eyes still widened in
shock.
“Well, you’re acting all protective of her, which is something you
Chapter 79
hardly ever do. It can only mean one thing, but I don’t want to
believe it is what I think it is.” Alpha Marcus said, with an
unsettling look.
“It better not be what I think it is” He restated, to make sure that
Steve understood what he was going on about.
Steve couldn’t say anything because he knew deep down that
his father was somehow right. He was beginning to have
feelings for Veronica. He had felt a rush of emotions from the
very first day he set his eyes on her in the forest, right when
they fell on each other, while he was trying to help her out of
the pit.
He had never felt that way before, so he knew he had already
fallen for her, but he couldn’t tell his father because that would
only hasten his decision to throw her out of the pack without
thinking twice, because she was a stranger.
Just then, they heard a knock on the door and Beta Richard
walked in.
“Oh, Richard, you’re back.” Alpha Marcus said as Beta Richard
made his way to his chair.
“Yes, Alpha. It’s been a very long day.” He replied and took his
seat.
Chapter 79
He glanced at Steve and from his eyes, Beta Richard knew he
wanted any information he could get about Veronica.
“How is she?” Steve quickly asked, just as Beta Richard had
predicted.
“She is okay. She should be resting by now.” He replied, and
Steve nodded.
“How was your quest to find the emblem?” Beta Richard asked
him, “we couldn’t ask earlier because of the issue on ground, but
seeing you alive and back to us, it only meant that you were
victorious.” He continued.
“It was fierce, but thanks to the moon goddess, I came out unscath and triumphant.” Steve answered, and walked towards them to finally hand over the emblem, which was immediately
placed carefully in a chest.
“Well–done. You did well.” Beta Richard commended him, and
Steve smiled slightly.
“Now back to the issue on ground,” he said again, and Steve’s
smile vanished.
He turned to Alpha Marcus, “have you made a decision yet? Or
do you need more time?” He inquired, “if you need more time to
ponder over it, I can leave and come back with the others in two
Chapter 79
days.”
“Oh, there will be no need for that because I have made my
decision.” He stated, his voice clear and crystal.
He took a quick glance at Steve who was shocked and unsettled,
and then looked back at Beta Richard.
“He needs to leave.” Alpha Marcus said to Beta Richard, who
then became confused.
“Uh, why?” Beta Richard asked him, his brows furrowed in
confusion.
“We both need to talk in private, so Steve needs to leave.” Alpha
Marcus reaffirmed, while Steve remained there, not knowing
what to do or what to expect from his father’s so–called final
decision.
Beta Richard cleared his throat and turned to Steve, “Kindly
leave. Go home and rest. You’ve already been through a lot of
stress in the past few days. “You’ll be updated on when next you
need to report to the palace.” He stated, but Steve was feeling
reluctant.
“But I don’t want to-” Steve tried to protest.
“Steve!” Beta Richard thundered and Steve kept quiet, “Go home
for now!” he ordered.
