Chapter 78
“Oh, my bad. This is Veronica.” Beta Richard immediately
introduced her to his wife.
“Yes, mum. This is Vee.” Scott cut in excitedly.
Beta Lily narrowed her eyes as she tried to figure out who the young lady with silver hair, who her family was introducing to
her, was.
“Okay?” She dragged her speech, waiting for her husband to
explain further why a stranger was at their house. “I don’t think
I’ve ever seen this face before now.
Before Beta Richard could respond, Scott immediately jumped
into the conversation, “Oh yes, mum. Do you remember Vee?”
Looking confused, she answered, “No, Scott. I don’t remember
Vee.
“Have you forgotten so soon?” He asked, with a displeased look
on his face.
“I’m sorry, but, yes, I have forgotten.” She replied, her eyes
darting towards Beta Richard, hoping that he would bail her out.

“Remember the Vee who saved him when he was lost in the
forest?” He asked her.
“Yeah, I remember. The one he won’t stop talking about?” She
asked, still not getting the point.
“Yes, exactly.” Beta Richard answered, nodding his head.
She shrugged, with a puzzled look on her face, “But what does
that have to do with what we are talking about? I don’t
understand the correlation.”
Beta Richard raised one of his eyebrows at his wife, and it
suddenly clicked.
Beta Lily suddenly gasped, “No way! Is she “THAT Vee‘?”
“Yes, she is “THAT Vee‘.” He responded, snapping his fingers as
she finally got the hint.
“Oh my goodness,” She exclaimed, “Come here.” She pulled
Veronica into a warm hug, while Scott stood there, smiling
happily.
“Thank you so much for caring and saving the life of our boy.‘
She said, her voice filled with appreciation. “I don’t even want to
imagine what would have happened to him if you weren’t
there.”

“I probably would be dead by now.” Scott cut in, and his mum
glared at him, making Veronica chuckled slightly. Scott became
quiet too.
“Yes, thank you so much Veronica. I’ve not had the chance to
thank you for saving our son yet. We are really grateful to you.” Beta Richard began to thank her, “I’m sure something else would
have happened to him if you weren’t there and if you weren’t
willing to help him when you found him. I mean, it’s a scary place out there in the forest and for you to take responsibility
for someone you didn’t even know before, shows that you are
an amazing person.”
“Exactly, not everyone would want to help someone they don’t
know in a place such as that dangerous forest.” Beta Lily chipped
- in.
“Yes. So, thank you so much, Veronica.” Beta Richard added
right after.
“But I’m still confused about something.” Best Lily said, her
brows furrowed.
“And what is that?” Beta Richard asked her.
“How did you find her?” She asked, “cause I’m quite sure, and I
could bet that I have never seen her anywhere in this pack
before now.” She continued, her tone confident, and Beta

Richard sighed.
“Also, the warriors who were sent to search for her didn’t find
her. So, how was she found?” She added, “or is there something
I’m missing?”
Beta Richard sighed, “you’re right, Lily. It appears that when the
warriors went in search of her, she was no longer in the forest,
she was already in this pack.”
“What?!” Beta Lily’s eyes widened in complete surprise. “How
was that even possible? Who brought her here?”
“Steve did.” Beta Richard answered, his tone clear.
“Wait, what? Steve? The Alpha’s son? How?” She was thrown
into further shock.
“Yes.” He nodded, “Apparently he was in the forest way before
the warriors got there at all, and he brought her here without
anyone knowing.” He continued.
Beta Lily gasped, her eyes widened, and her gaze slowly fell on
Veronica, and back to her husband.
“You mean Steve found her in the forest and brought her here
and no one knew about it?”
“Yes, I was shocked too, but I guess he outwitted the guards and

everyone.” He answered, and she sighed.
“And that was why the warriors who went in search of her
didn’t find her.” He added, and she nodded slowly.
Following the conversation since it started, and hearing that
warriors were sent in search of her, Veronica had to speak up, “I‘
m sorry, but I heard from your conversation that warriors were
sent out in search of me.”
“Yes, that’s right. You know, Scott was found by the warriors
when he passed out and he was unconscious for a while. When
he regained consciousness, he began to ask about you and seeing
that we were all confused, not knowing what he was talking
about, he was heartbroken.” Beta Richard explained, while
Veronica listened attentively.
“He said you saved his life but then, you were stuck in a pit, and
he promised to get you help, but he couldn’t because he had lost
consciousness. So, he asked the Alpha for help, but when the
warriors went in search of you, they found the pit but you
weren’t in it.” He narrated, on a final note, and Veronica’s mouth
opened in awe.
Her eyes welled up with tears, as she drew Scott close to her and
muttered, “Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome.” He smiled and embraced her, warmly as the

emotions in the atmosphere grew tense.
Beta Richard cleared his throat, “I think we can pause this reunion for now, right?”
Scott and Veronica pulled aside from each other and smile.
“She is exhausted and she needs rest.” He said again, and turned to his wife, “She has been through a lot in the past twenty four
hours, she needs to rest.”
“Okay. Is she a member of our pack now?” She asked with a bit
of calmness in her voice.
“Unfortunately not, she has to go back to the palace in two
days.” Beta Richard revealed, and his wife furrowed her brows.
“Go back to the palace? But why?” She inquired.
“The Alpha has not decided on what to do with her yet.” He
revealed and she nodded slowly.
“Oh,” She muttered, “it’s fine then.” She then turned to Scott,
“Son, take her to the guest room. Thankfully, the room is neat
and properly organized. I’ll get her some fresh clothes and some
food so that she’ll rest better.“.
“Okay, mum.” He answered happily, “Let’s go, Vee.” He pulled Veronica by the arm and walked away.
Chapter 78
As they were out of sight, Beta Richard and Beta Lily sighed.
“Poor girl, she has been through so much already. I just hope Alpha Marcus‘ judgement is in her favour.” Beta Lily said and
Beta Richard nodded sadly.
“I hope so too.” He muttered, “Please take care of her. I need to go
back to the palace now.” He said to her as he prepared to take his
leave.
“Alright, no problem. See you later.” She replied and he left.
In the guest room, Scott helped Veronica to try and settle in.
“You can sit anywhere. You’re welcome to our house once
again.” He said with a smile, and she smiled at him too.
Veronica chose to sit on the bed, while Scott sat on the chair
opposite her.
“Do you need anything?” He asked her curiously, but she shook
her head.
“No, thank you.” She smiled as she responded.
As they sat in silence, he soon noticed that beneath the smile on
her face, she was worried.
Scott’s concern for Veronica was evident on his face, he got up

from the chair and sat beside her. He leaned in, “Vee, what’s
bothering you? You seem… really off.”
Veronica’s expression faltered, her eyes darting away. “Nothing
is wrong, Scott. I told you that earlier too.” She faked another
smile, but Scott saw through it.
Scott’s gaze lingered, skeptical. “Come on,” he protested, tugging
on her arm. “Don’t lie to me, Veronica. I might not know you too
well, but at least I know you a little to know that something is
really bothering you.”
“I thought we were friends who could tell each other anything, or am I wrong?” He asked, his face filled with sadness.
She sighed aloud, “you really are persistent.”
“Of course, I am. I’m just worried about you.” He answered, his eyes piercing into hers, looking for answers.
“Well, I’m just worried about Steve and Megan. I’m afraid that they might have gotten into trouble and it’s all because of me.” She revealed and Scott nodded, understanding her fears.
“I understand.” He sighed shortly. “I would be scared too if I was in your shoes, but let’s just be hopeful that they don’t get into too much trouble. Or do you want me to speak to my dad about it? Maybe he can speak to the Alpha about it too?”

“Oh no, Scott. I don’t think that will be necessary. I don’t want you to get into any more trouble, or have you forgotten that you are still in trouble with your parents?” She reminded him, and his eyes widened.
“Oops! I forgot already.” He suddenly said as he remembered and
Veronica burst into laughter at his reaction.
Right at that moment, they heard a knock at the door and they
became quiet.
“Who is it?” Scott yelled.
“It’s Jane.” The female voice answered.
Veronica turned to Scott, and whispered, “Who is that?”
“She is one of the maids here.” He whispered back to her.
“What do you want?” He asked Jane, who was still at the door.
“Your mum. She needs your attention immediately.”
