Chapter 77
On their drive back home, Scott chatted away with Veronica. He had a lot to say to her, and although she was tired, exhausted
and worried, she indulged him.
“My mum will be so pumped up to see you.” He said excitedly,
and Veronica just smiled.
Noticing that her reaction was not too hyper like he thought it
should be, Scott had to ask her, “What’s wrong?”
“Wrong? There’s nothing wrong. I’m fine.” She answered calmly, with a weak smile, but the attentive Scott saw through her.
“Come on, Vee. You don’t look fine to me, and I can tell that you’re worried about something. What is it?” He asked, with
concern.
“It’s nothing serious, I promise you. I’m just tired.” She replied,
with a weak smile.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course I am.” She assured him, with a wink, and he smiled.
“Here, we are.” Beta Richard announced as he drove into the

compound where some of the Beta’s servants were waiting.
“Vee, welcome to our house.” Scott said to her, beaming with smiles.
“Wow,” Veronica muttered, looking out through the car’s window. “Your house is really nice.”
“It sure is.” He responded, with much enthusiasm, as he looked out, admiring their house.
“You’re so lucky.” She said, inaudibly.
Beta Richard parked the car carefully, and the servants approached the car. He alighted and the passenger’s door
opened, revealing Veronica, who slowly alighted from the car
too. Seeing her, the servants stood back in shock.
As if the shock of seeing Veronica wasn’t enough, they were
thrown into more shock when they saw Scott, who excitedly
jumped out of the car in a rush.
“Careful, Scott.” His father said firmly, and he composed himself.
“I’m sorry, dad. I’m just so happy to finally see Vee again.” He
beamed with smiles as he spoke and his dad nodded, smiling too.
“I know you are very happy, but you need to be careful. I don’t
want you rushing around and ending up with an injury. Is that

clear?”
“Yes, dad.” He answered, nodding his head happily.
Seeing the servant’s shocked reaction, Beta Richard frowned as
he asked them, “You all are shocked, right?”
“Yes, sir. We… we… are really shocked.” One of the servants
answered him, stuttering.
“So tell me, does any of you have an explanation for how Scott
left this place and none of you knew?” Beta Richard asked the
confused and shocked servants, but they were unable to give an
appropriate answer.
“None of you has an answer?” He inquired and they bowed their
heads, unable to look him in the eye.
“You had one job! One job; to keep an eye on him and ensure that
he is safe, but what did you do? You left your duty posts and
didn’t even know when he left.” He scolded the servants, who
still had their heads bowed in shame for being incompetent.
“We’re really sorry, Beta Richard. We didn’t know he left the
house. We actually thought he was with Beta Lily in the house.”
The servant replied, “We’re sorry Beta Richard, such a thing will

never repeat itself again.” He apologized, his tone filled with
remorse.

“That will be a case for later. I’ll deal with it later.” Beta Richard
stated, paying less attention to the servant.
He then turned to Veronica, whose eyes were still looking
around like a lost puppy, “Welcome to our house”
“Thank you, sir.” She answered, smiling.
“Is there anything that needs to be brought out of the car?” One
of the servants asked Beta Richard.
“Oh no. There is nothing in there.” He replied, shaking his head,
negatively.
“Let’s go in.” He said, gesturing with his hands, and began to walk in, with Scott and Veronica following closely behind him.
As they approached the living room, Scott continued to talk to Veronica, holding her hands, while his father just kept wondering and trying to understand how the bond between them developed even when they only spent a few days together
in the forest.
“Scott? Is that you?” Beta Lily’s voice asked as she approached
them.
Hearing his mum’s voice, he swiftly hid behind his dad.
She soon appeared in the living room, “I thought I heard Scott’s

voice, where is he? Have you seen him?” She asked her husband.
Beta Richard immediately stepped aside, revealing Scott, who
was hiding behind him.
“Why, you little rascal!” She exclaimed, “how dare you leave this house without telling anyone? What is wrong with you?” She
scolded him, and he bowed, his face dropping in sadness.
“Don’t even give me that sad face. You know what you did was
wrong. Don’t try to slide your way out mischievously.” She
scolded him further.
“I’m sorry, mom. I knew you wouldn’t allow me to leave if I had
told you.” He explained, but she wasn’t having it.
“And you thought that sneaking out, leaving the house
unnoticed was the best option? Is that what you’re doing now?”
“No, mum. I’m so sorry. I will never do such a thing anymore.”
He pleaded with her sincerely.
“You better not.” She said firmly, with a serious look on her face,
and he nodded with a little smile, which was short–lived.
“But bear in mind that you will definitely be punished for your actions.” She suddenly added and Scott’s smile vanished immediately.
Chapter 77
He then turned to look at his father, hoping that he was going to
speak to his mum on his behalf.
“Nope, don’t look at me, young man.” Beta Richard wagged a
disapproving finger as soon as Scott turned to face him.
“Face your mum, because I won’t say anything to support or bail
you out. What you did was totally wrong, and you know it.”
Beta Richard said and looked away, determined not to put in
any word for Scott.
Scott then turned back to face his mum, “Mum please, I’m sorry.
I promise you. I won’t ever leave the house without your
permission anymore.” He assured her.
“That doesn’t change anything. You’ll still be punished.” She
reiterated, not changing her mind, and Scott’s demeanour
changed, his shoulders dropping.
“Honey, where did you even find him? How did you find him?
Because I’ve been looking everywhere for him. I even asked the
servants, but they said they didn’t see him pass through them.”
She asked, facing Beta Richard.
“Would you like to take a guess?” Beta Richard asked her, his
hands intertwined at his back.
“Really?” She rolled her eyes at him.

“He came to the palace.” Beta Richard answered.
“What?!” She exclaimed in shock, “He came to the palace? What for?” She asked, her eyes widened in surprise.
“That’s not even the most shocking part of it, Lily.” Beta Richard
said, throwing her into further surprise.
“He interrupted our meeting.” He revealed, and her hands flew
to her mouth, covering it in shock.
“He did what?” She inquired, “but WHY?”
As she asked, Beta Richard’s eyes moved slowly and then fell on
Veronica, who had been standing there all along like she was
invisible.
Beta Lily’s eyes followed her husband’s, and after what seemed
like an eternity, she finally noticed Veronica.
Seeing Veronica, she furrowed her brows, and turned to her
husband as she asked, “Uh… and who is she?”
