Chapter 75
“You don’t mean that, right? Steve, are you joking?” Councillor
Maxwell asked him, trying to confirm if he heard him right or
not.
“I’m sorry, sir, but I’m not joking. Megan knew about Veronica
too.” Steve replied, sounding quite disappointed in himself.
“She didn’t want to do it initially, but I somehow cajoled her into
doing it. I’m so sorry, sir.” Steve bowed his head, avoiding
Councillor Maxwell’s angry and disappointed gaze.
“How long? How long has she known?” Beta Richard inquired
and Steve took a quick uncomfortable glance at Megan’s father
before answering Beta Richard’s question.
“Since the morning after I brought her into the pack.” He revealed, and they all mumurred, while Councillor Maxwell’s
head was bowed, avoiding the mocking eyes of the others.
He had put too much trust in his daughter, making him boast of
how sure he was that she would never be involved in such an
act, but now it turned out that he was totally wrong. So he
couldn’t face the others in the room. The only thing he could
think of was how to deal with Megan when he got home, for
Chapter 75
embarrassing him.
“How could she do such a thing? How can she embarrass me like
this? I can’t believe that she actually made a fool out of me.” He
thought to himself as he felt a bit of anger stirring up within
him.
Amidst the mumurs of everyone in the room, Elder Raymond
cleared his throat and they all turned in his direction.
“So, what do we do now, Alpha? I mean, what are you going to
do with her?” He asked, as silence filled the room once again.
“Yes, are you letting her stay or what?” Another elderly chipped
in, breaking the silence for a short moment.
Alpha Marcus sighed loudly and he then turned towards Steve’s
direction. He stared at Steve, whose expression, he couldn’t quite
put a finger on, and he didn’t know what was going on in his
head. His gaze then slowly moved to Veronica, who was clearly
exhausted from crying for too long after everything that had
happened to her in just a short while.
And finally, his eyes landed on Scott, who looked innocent as his
eyes pleaded for mercy on behalf of his dear friend, who he had
just found after being lost and apart for weeks.
“About this issue, I think I might have to think about it well
Chapter 75
before I pass my judgement.” Alpha Marcus said loud and clear.
“So we don’t know her fate now?” Seth asked, his tone, showing
that he wasn’t too satisfied about Alpha Marcus‘ response.
“Yes, we don’t, Seth. Do you want to pass the judgement
instead?” Alpha Marcus snapped at him, because his attitude
was beginning to piss him off.
“No, Alpha. That’s not what I’m saying.” He quickly shook his
head. “I was only asking a question.” He added and Alpha
Marcus glared at him, making him keep quiet.
“Are we all going to be summoned when you want to pass your
judgement?” Seth asked again and all eyes were on Alpha
Marcus.
“Of course. You all will be summoned.” He answered and they all
nodded their heads in understanding.
“I think that will be all for now then.” He continued, “you may
all leave now. Or does anyone have anything to say?” He asked,
his eyes moving slowly as he checked to see if anyone had
anything to say.
Seeing as no one looked like they had anything to say, he said
further, “I think I’ll be right to assume that no one has anything
to say.” He glanced at their reactions one more time before he
Chapter 75
continued, “In that case, this meeting is adjourned till the day
after tomorrow. You can all-” He was interrupted.
“Alpha?” Seth raised his hand, wanting to say something. “Can I say something really quickly?” He asked, his hand still up, while
the others murmured frustratingly.
Seeing this, Alpha Marcus, who was now also getting frustrated, said, “What is it again, Seth? What else is there to say? And why
are you just speaking now when you had the opportunity to speak minutes ago?” Alpha Marcus said with a frown.
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I just remembered something I should have said.” He responded and they all rolled their eyes.
Although a member of the council, Seth was a bit younger than all of them, and so he acted strangely sometimes, making them
all tired of his constant actions.
“Since you have something to say. Go ahead.” Alpha Marcus urged him and he cleared his throat loudly, making the others
shake their heads in annoyance.
“Thank you, Alpha.” He said, “I just wanted to know if all those who had a hand in harbouring a stranger in the pack, will be punished.” He said out loud and they all exchanged glances.
They all knew what Seth was indirectly asking. They knew he
Chapter 75
was indirectly asking if Alpha Marcus was going to punish
Steve, his son and Megan, the daughter of Councillor Maxwell
Hill.
Without thinking too much about it, Alpha Marcus answered,
“Of course, they will be punished accordingly. Not knowing the
rules is a different case, but knowing the rules and intentionally
flouting the rules is a punishable offense.”
“Every single one who had a hand in this shall be punished.” He
said on a final note and at that moment, all eyes were on Steve,
who immediately bowed his head, avoiding their prying eyes.
“Have I answered you, Councillor Seth?” Alpha Marcus asked,
turning to him and he nodded, proudly.
“Yes, Alpha. You have answered me perfectly.”
“I’m guessing that’s all. No one else has anything to say, right?” Alpha Marcus asked, looking at all of them as they shook their
heads in response.
“Good then. We will meet in two days.” He said on a final note
and they all got up, bowed and began to take their leave.
“Guards, tell the people to go home.” Alpha Marcus instructed
the guards, “I know they are out there, but tell them to go to
their houses or stores immediately. If anyone is caught lurking
Chapter 75
around the palace unnecessarily, he or she will be punished.” He
ordered, his voice clear and firm.
The guards immediately rushed out to deliver the Alpha’s
message to the people, leaving Scott, Beta Richard, Steve and
Veronica alone with Alpha Marcus.
“I am highly disappointed in you.” Alpha Marcus stared at Steve
for a short moment and not knowing what else to say to him at
that moment, he shook his head.
“What do we do with her?” Beta Richard asked, trying to change
the tension in the atmosphere.
“Should she go back with Steve?” He asked him.
“No way.” Alpha Marcus refused to the shock of Steve and
Veronica.
ちょ
“What!? Why?” Steve tried to protest.
“Silence!” Alpha Marcus silenced him. “I don’t want to hear a
long word from you.” He hissed angrily.
“Richard, please take her home. Lily and the maids can take care
of her till we all come back in two days and I figure out what to
do with her.” He instructed Beta Richard, who nodded in
agreement, without protesting.
Chapter 75
Hearing this, Scott’s joy knew no bounds as he jumped happily
at the sound of Alpha Marcus‘ words.
“Vee!!!” He squealed in happiness and ran to hug her again. “I
can’t believe we will be together again.” He whispered to her.
“We’ll leave now.” Beta Richard said, bowing.
He then turned to Veronica, who was holding onto Scott, “Come
on, we should leave now.”
As they left, Steve also began to leave, but his father’s voice
stopped him, “And where do you think you are going to? Have I
asked you to leave yet?” He yelled at Steve.
Staying back, Steve watched as Veronica left with Scott and
Beta Richard. He stared at their backs until they were out of
sight.
COUNCILLOR MAXWELL’S HOUSE
The moment Councillor Maxwell drove into his compound and
stepped out of his car, his anger was rekindled.
Megan, on the other hand, was having mixed feelings. As she
heard her father’s car, parking, she wasn’t sure whether or not
to go out to say hello to him.
She knew he would have known about Veronica since he was a
Chapter 75
member of the council and he had been in the palace since early
that morning, but she wasn’t sure if he knew the full details of
everything that happened.
“MEGAN! MEGAN!! MEGAN!!!” He yelled as he angrily made his
way into the house. “Where are you?!”
Hearing her father’s voice and knowing that he was very angry,
from his tone, she rushed out of her room.
“Yes, d…. dad. I’m … here.” She answered, her voice shaking in
fear.
Finally seeing her father’s eyes, Megan knew she was in big trouble. Hardly did her father get mad at her, but whenever he did, it was always because of something really serious that she did. Something he couldn’t just overlook.
“How dare you Megan? How could you? How could you make a fool out of me?” He yelled, his voice, thundering throughout the
room.
