Chapter 71
Back at the pack, Veronica was about to be brought before the
Alpha and the people who had now heard what happened the
previous night, began to gather outside the Alpha’s palace to
feed their eyes and their ears.
“I heard they found a strange female in Master Steve’s house.” A
member of the pack, Daisy, whispered to her friend, Rose, who
covered her mouth, shocked.
“Does that mean he has been the one harboring the spy?” Rose
asked, and Daisy scoffed.
“Isn’t it obvious now?” Daisy said with a look of displeasure. “I
can’t believe he’ll actually do something like this. I mean, I held
him in high esteem.” She said further.
“Exactly. I mean, for someone who will be the future leader of
the pack, this is uncalled for and it is a punishable offence.” Rose
voiced her opinion on the matter.
“I even heard she has been there, living in his house, for many
weeks now.” She whispered into Rose’s ear.
“Really? Are you sure about that?” She inquired, surprised to
hear what Daisy just said.
Chapter 71
“Yes. I heard it from a very reliable source.” Daisy whispered,
confidently, her eyes darting around to ensure that no one
heard them.
“Who told you?” Rose asked, with curious eyes
“I’m sorry but, I can’t tell you.” She responded, looking away,
making her friend frown.
“So you can’t tell me, your friend?”

“I’m sorry but I can’t tell you. I already promised not to tell
anyone but now, I have broken that promise. I don’t want to
break it any further.” Daisy replied.
“It’s fine, never mind then.” Rose said, rolling her eyes at her
friend. “But did you see her though? I heard someone say that
her hair is different from ours?”
“Yes. That was what I was told too. I heard she has very long
silver hair.” Daisy revealed, calling the attention of other people
who had been eavesdropping on their conversation to
themselves.
“Silver hair? That’s strange. No member of this pack has such.” A
third party, Celia, joined the conversation.
“Exactly! That was what I was thinking too.” Rose added.
Chapter 71
“But why would he do such a thing? I really don’t understand.”
Daisy said, and they all sighed.
“No one knows. I think he is in the best position to answer such a
question.” Celia stated, and they nodded in agreement.
“Very true. He alone knows why he kept a strange person in his
house for this long, knowing that such a thing is forbidden in
the pack.” Rose said, in support.
They all kept gossiping for minutes till the guards silenced them
all.
“SILENCE! THE ALPHA HAS ORDERED EVERYONE TO BE
QUIET!” The guard yelled out loud and they all became quiet,
with only a few silent mumurs audible.
Inside the palace, Veronica was dragged roughly and thrown to
the ground before Alpha Marcus, who was seated on his throne,
his face twisted in intense anger and displeasure.
Beta Richard also sat beside him, while the rest of the Council
members and the Elders were all seated too. An emergency
gathering had been called immediately the news got to Alpha
Marcus, about the discovery of Veronica in Steve’s house. But
because it was already late at night, they decided to meet early
the next morning.
Chapter 71
Now kneeling in the front of different angry eyes, piercing through her soul, Veronica didn’t know what to do at that moment. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying all night. She knew she was in deep trouble and the end was near. She cried silently as she wished that the ground would actually give
way and swallow her up, or that someone would magically
show up and save her from the doom that was about to befall
her.
“That Bastard. It’s all his fault.” She silently cursed Beck out in
her heart, because if he had not abandoned her when she
needed him most, if he had not turned a blind eye, if he had
defended and stood up for her, maybe she wouldn’t have been
banished, talk less of finding herself in this pack, about to face
an unknown punishment for a crime she didn’t commit.
After a moment of murmuring and side talks, Alpha Marcus
raised his hand, which signified silence and so, everyone in the
palace became quiet immediately.
“How dare you?!“” His voice echoed through the now silent
room.
Veronica remained on the floor with her head bowed to the
ground, unable to meet Alpha Marcus‘ angry glare.
“How dare you come into my pack and cause so much chaos?! “What effrontery! What audacity!” He thundered and Veronica
Chapter 71
shook in fear.
“Who the hell are you and who sent you?” He yelled angrily at
her, but she couldn’t answer, out of fear.
Seeing as she didn’t answer and was only sobbing silently, his
eyes darted around the room as he exchanged glances with all
who were seated.
“Are you deaf? Can’t you speak!? Alpha Marcus thundered, his
tone showing his frustration and fury.
“I said who are you and who the hell sent you?!” He shouted at her again.
“Ve…Veronica. I’m Veronica.” She answered, shakily, her face still bowed to the ground.
“And what should I do with your name?” He questioned,
irritatingly. “Who sent you?” He asked further, but Veronica
remained quiet because she was confused.
She didn’t know how to respond or what to say to Alpha
Marcus. He had just asked her who sent her but she didn’t know
what to tell him because no one sent her.
“Answer me. Damn it!” He growled and she shrieked in fear.
“No one.” She answered, quietly.
Chapter 71
“Lies! Pure lies.” One of the council members, interjected. “Don’t
let her fool you, Alpha. She is telling lies.” He said firmly, but
Veronica raised her head from the ground and shook her head
to deny the claims against her.
“Yes, I agree.” Another member added, in support. “Did you see
how reluctant she felt before answering you? It just shows that
she is cooking up lies.”
“No, that’s not true. No one sent me. I don’t know what you are
talking about.” She cried out.
“So, if no one sent you, we’re right to believe that you’re working
for no one. You work for yourself and you’re your own boss,
right?” Another council member chipped in.
“Why were you at that young man’s house? Did you bewitch him? Does he know who you are?” Another one questioned her, glaring at her. “Because I don’t want to believe that he was in his
right senses when he kept you in his house.”
“Why did you come to this pack? What do you stand to gain by ruining our pack and stealing from us?” Beta Richard asked too.
“I didn’t steal anything. I swear by the moon goddess, I didn’t do
anything.” She kept crying, while they kept talking, everyone of
them, having a thing or two to say to her.
Chapter 71
They all bombarded her with different questions, leaving her no room to answer any of their questions perfectly. As they kept yelling at her and talking over each other, she just remained on the spot, staring at nothing in particular and began to zone out.
“I told you, didn’t I?” It was the same strange voice which had been tormenting her from time to time, and once again she felt a
weird presence around her.
“Finally, you’ve been exposed for who you really are. Very soon,
you’ll be thrown out of here and left to wander about like a
curse that you are.” The voice said again and laughed mockingly.
Outside, Steve and the guards finally arrived back at the pack. As he got close to the palace, he noticed the gathered crowd and how they became so cold the moment he got closer to them.
“What is going on? Why are there so many people out here? And why do they seem so cold? Is anything going on inside the palace?” He asked, whispering to one of the warriors who he
arrived together with.
“I have no idea, sir. But I can ask around if you don’t mind.” The
warrior suggested, but Steve shook his head.
“No, that won’t be necessary. I’ll find out myself when I get in.”
Steve replied and the warrior nodded.
Chapter 71
Stepping onto the palace ground, he saw the numerous cars
parked and he knew something was definitely up. He also heard
voices from inside but he wasn’t sure of what was being said, or
who it was being said to.
“Something serious must have happened for all the council members and Elders‘ cars to be parked here this early. And what is all that noise for?” He thought to himself and increased his
pace, hurrying into the palace.
Getting into the palace court, he saw all the elders and all the
council members seated, and as they saw him, they all stopped
talking and their attention were now focused on him as he
slowly walked in, especially his father who looked like he was going to tear everyone apart in the twinkle of an eye. He noticed that all their expressions weren’t welcoming, but he didn’t really
care because something else caught his attention. Right in the
middle of the room was a female, bowed to the ground.
“That long silvery hair,” He thought to himself, “It looks really
familiar. It seems like I have seen it recently. I’ve only seen one
person who has that type of-” He suddenly gasped.
“Veronica!” He exclaimed, rushing towards her, to the shock of
everyone in the room.
