Chapter 68
Scott, half awake, walked off to his parent’s room in the very
early hours of the morning, with baggy eyes. He yawned as he
made his way to their door. Getting to the door, he knocked.
“Yes, who is it?” It was his mum, Beta Lily’s soft voice who
responded.
“It’s me, Scott.” He answered, stretching himself quietly.
“Come on in.” She said quickly and he gently began to open the
door and walked in.
“Good morning, mum. Good morning, dad.” He greeted them as
he walked to his mum’s side of the bed.
She sat up and gently pulled him into her embrace.
“Hi, my love. It’s barely morning.” Beta Lily responded, giving
him a kiss on his forehead.
“Hello, champ.” Beta Richard replied, sitting up as he yawned,
quietly.
“Are you okay?” She asked, concerned. “You’re up at this time, and you look like you barely slept a wink throughout the night.”

She added, observing and staring at him. “Did you sleep well at
all?” She asked again.
“No.” He answered honestly as he rubbed his eyes with his
hands.
“No? Why? What happened?” She inquired, with concern still
evident in her tone.
“I don’t know. I just couldn’t sleep well.” He answered, looking
tired. “I also had a dream.” He revealed.
“Oh. What was it about?” She asked, her expression, a bit tense.
“Veronica. It was about Veronica.” He answered calmly, staring
at his mother.
“Veronica?” His mother asked, as she tried to figure out who he
was talking about. With an unsure look on her face, she turned
to her husband.
Beta Richard turned to face them, “Isn’t that the girl he met in
the forest?” He stated, and Scott nodded.
“Oh, yes. That’s true.” Beta Lily replied, as she remembered that
Scott had talked about Veronica, and how she saved his life
when he got lost in the forest.
“Oh, how do you feel?” She asked, pulling him into her arms

once again.
“I don’t know. I miss her already and I’m still scared that
something bad might have happened to her.” He whispered,
sadly.
Beta Richard’s expression softened as he spoke, “I know it might
be hard, but you know we did our best trying to find her, right?
Our warriors combed the entire forest but couldn’t find her.
They didn’t find any useful clues either.” Beta Richard said to
him, and Scott nodded.

Scott’s eyes welled up with tears, and his voice cracked as he
spoke, “I know, but I can’t stop thinking that it’s my fault that
she is gone. I can’t stop thinking that I abandoned her.” He
swallowed softly, trying to fight back his tears.
“No, son. It’s not your fault.” Beta Richard confidently said.
“Come here.” He gestured to Scott, who pulled away from his
mum and gently walked to his father’s side of the bed.
Beta Richard placed his hand on Scott’s shoulders in a reassuring manner. “You were too little to do anything. And it was beyond your control. You shouldn’t blame yourself.” He said gently.
Scott’s face fell, just as his shoulders drooped too, “but what if… what if she really needed me, and I just disappointed her just like

that.” He replied, his voice filled with sadness.
“Look at me, son. If she knows what really happened, I think she
won’t blame you. And if she is as amazing as you claim she is,
then I doubt if there will be any need to shift blames.” Beta
Richard said smartly, and Scott began to gradually reason with
him.
“You think so?” Scott asked his father.
“Yea of course. I know so.” He answered him, confidently. “I
know you’re worried and scared that you made the wrong decision but I can assure you that it was the right and best
decision, because if you didn’t attempt to get her help at that
moment, you probably could have passed out and something
else could have happened to you” He assured him and he nodded
as he began to calm down.
Seeing as he has calmed down a bit, Beta Lily sighed in relief.
“Do you think you’re a bit fine now?” She asked him and he
nodded.
“Would you like to at least go back to bed now? I’m sure you need adequate rest.” She inquired, but he shook his head,
refusing.
“Is there something else you want to say?” She inquired, as
Chapter 68
calmly as she could be.
“I’m not only worried about Veronica.” He revealed and his
parents exchanged glances. “Yes I’m worried about her well-
being but it’s not just her.” He explained.
“Really? So who else are you worried about?” She asked, her mind wandering.
“It’s uncle Steve. I’m worried about him. What if he doesn’t come back?” He asked and his parents were a bit taken aback but were quick to compose themselves.
“What do you mean by that?” Beta Richard asked him.
“I know you both think I don’t understand what is going on, do. I really don’t know why you guys keep treating me like a child.” He replied, sounding more mature than his age.
but I
“Well, maybe because you’re one.” His father stated, and Scott
frowned.
“I’m an adult.” He affirmed, and his parents scoffed.
“You’re just ten, Scott. There is nothing ‘adult‘ about being just ten years of age.” Beta Richard stated with a serious tone and Scott’s expression changed as he was about to cry.
“Just look at you. You’re about to cry because of what I said. No

adult will ever act like that.” His father teased him and hearing his father’s words, his expression immediately changed.
“Now, I’m an adult, right dad?” He asked again, and getting fed up of Scott’s continuous clamour of being called an adult, he
accepted.
“Yes, my dear son. You’re an adult. A great and thoughtful one at that.” Beta Richard began to speak, but Scott was immediately able to figure out his sarcasm.
“You’re joking.” He yelled, his expression changing.
“Of course not.” Beta Richard insisted, maintaining his serious
expression, finally able to fool his son.
“Don’t worry about Uncle Steve. He will be completely fine and
he will come back.” He assured his son.
Scott then yawned from getting tired and his parents both
became happy.
“I think you need to go back to bed now.” His mother quickly
suggested, and he agreed.
“Bye mum, bye dad.” He said and he left after giving them both a
hug.
As he left and they were sure he was back in his room, they

heaved a sigh of relief.
“He really is a handful.” Beta Richard muttered as soon as Scott’s
door shut.
“Phew. I agree with you. Thank goodness, he has finally gone
back to bed. I was beginning to fear that he would be cranky all
day for lack of enough sleep.” She added in support and Beta
Richard nodded.
They both then got back in bed but couldn’t sleep. They laid in
silence until one of them broke the silence.
“But do you think Steve will be fine? It’s been four days already.”
Beta Lily asked, looking at her husband, who sighed.
“I really hope that he will be fine. Steve is smarter and stronger than he thinks he is. That, I believe.” He said, and his wife
nodded.
“I agree with you on that. I think this task will definitely show
his that side of him that he didn’t know, existed before now.” She
said what was on her mind.
“True.” He muttered, nodding in agreement.
“The guards are already at the borders. We don’t want to take
any risks.” He revealed and his wife nodded, impressed by the
news.
Chapter 68
“We had to change our initial plan because it’s possible that we still have spies, disguising as real pack members.” He whispered
and she nodded, knowingly.
“He will be fine. The fate and the future of the pack rests on his
shoulders and we are hopeful.” She said, and they both sighed,
and remained in silence till they fell asleep few minutes later.
