Chapter 63
Steve got home to Veronica and Megan, waiting for him. He had
been gone for almost an hour and they were beginning to get
worried that something unusual might have happened to him.
As soon as he got into the house, they rushed to him, their faces
filled with concern and worry as they expected news from him.
“So? How did it go? Are you in trouble?” Megan quickly asked in
a rush.
“Why do you keep talking about me being in trouble?” He asked
her, shaking his head.
“Sorry. That’s just what came to my mind. You can’t really blame
me.” She replied and he furrowed his brows.
“So, I’m a troublemaker. Is that what you’re saying?” He queried
and walked off to take his seat.
“No,” Veronica immediately intervened before it was blown out
of proportion. “I’m sure that is not what she meant, right Megan?” She said, turning to Megan, who nodded in agreement.
“Okay, if you say so.” Steve agreed and took out his phone and began scrolling through it, while Megan kept standing in front
Chapter 63
of him while he was at it.
Noticing that she didn’t sit, he raised his head from his phone, his
eyes darted from side to side.
“What is it, Megan?” He inquired.
“You haven’t said anything, Steve.” She stated.
“I have nothing to say to you.” Steve replied, plainly, making
Megan displeased.

“What do you mean? Does that mean we’ve been wasting our
time, getting worried and waiting for you?” Megan queried him
and he dropped his phone.
“What are you even saying?” He questioned, looking quite
frustrated.
“We’ve been waiting for you since you left. Only for you to get
back now and act like nothing happened.” She complained.
“Well, nothing significant happened.” He said with a shrug, his
voice laced with understatement.
“Come on, Steve.” Megan pressed, with her hands folded across
her chest.
Steve let out a frustrating sigh, leaning his head backwards,
Chapter 63
resting it against the headrest. He closed his eyes and took a deep
breath. As he exhaled, his eyes snapped open and he sat up
again.
Seeing as he looked like he was ready to speak, Megan hurriedly
grabbed a stool, placed it in front of him, and sat on it.
He gave her a questioning look, but she didn’t care, she remained
seated, awaiting his response.
“So? What did the Alpha say?” Megan asked, impatiently.
“He said I’m going on a journey.” He finally revealed, leaving
Megan confused.
She glanced at Veronica, who was equally looking confused.
“On a journey? Journey to where exactly?” Megan asked him,
still confused.

“Honestly, I don’t know where.” He answered. “He only told me
to be prepared because I’ll be leaving in two days. He added.
“What? Two days? Why is it so quick?” She inquired, surprised
at why Alpha Marcus wanted him to go on a journey just two
days after he was let out of his imprisonment.
“I have no idea.” Steve responded.
Chapter 63
“And I’ll be gone for a week.” He added, making Megan more
surprised.
“What? A whole week?” She asked, with her eyes widened.
“Yeap, that was what he said.” Steve affirmed and Megan shook
her head.
“But wait a minute, how do you go on a journey to a place you
don’t know? I really don’t understand that part.” Veronica asked,
looking more confused.
“Exactly.” Megan supported her. “It makes no sense if you ask
me, really.” She added.
“Actually, he said that Beta Richard will give me more
information about where I’m going and what I’m supposed to do
there.”
“Oh, I guess that makes sense then.” Veronica commented,
nodding her head. “I thought you were just meant to go
somewhere without any direction whatsoever.”
“Oh no. That’s not it.” Steve said, confirming that more
information would be provided to him in that regard.
“It still makes no sense to me though.” Megan said and they both
turned to look at her.

TAUN
“Why?” Veronica asked.
“The Alpha knows that he just got back. I mean, he was the one
who locked him up. So, why send him on a journey when he
hasn’t even settled in well yet? Are you guys not thinking in the
same way?” Megan said, staring at Steve and Veronica, at
intervals, to see if anyone felt the same way.
“I mean, he is the Alpha of the pack, and he can do whatever he
likes to anyone, right?” Veronica commented, her eyes moving
from Megan to Steve.
“If he was his son, I’m guessing it would have been a different
ball game. At least, he’ll have a say.” She continued and this time
Steve and Megan couldn’t say anything, with both knowing
who Steve really was.
“What is it? Did I say something wrong?” Veronica noticed the
sudden silence.
“Oh no. You didn’t say anything wrong. In fact, you’re totally
right.” Steve said, supporting her, while Megan just stared at
him, not knowing what to say.
“I need some water.” Steve said as he got up and went to grab a
bottle of water from the kitchen.
He settled back in the chair, dropping the bottle of water and

cup on the stool beside his chair. He poured the water into the
cup and began to gulp it down.
Just as he was still gulping his water down, Veronica suddenly
asked another question.
“But does your Alpha have a son though? Any kids that you
guys are friends with?” She asked.
Steve
eyes widened in shock. Taken aback, he spat the water in his mouth out, splashing Megan’s face, since she was sitting right
in front of him. Water droplets clung to her face and the front
part of her hair. Veronica’s eyes also widened, her hands flung
to cover her mouth, in shock of what had just happened.
Megan gasped, startled by what Steve had just done, and with
her wet face, she shouted, “STEVE!”
“Ah! I’m so sorry.” Steve exclaimed as he apologized, looking
mortified and a bit embarrassed.
Still shocked, Veronica hurriedly ran into the kitchen to get a
dry napkin. She dashed out of the kitchen and immediately
began to dab Megan’s face, dry with the napkin.

“Why would you do this to me?” Megan yelled, but because the
napkin Veronica was using for her face was close to her mouth,
all they heard was muffled sounds as she spoke and Steve
Chapter 63
couldn’t help but chuckle. This got Megan really mad.
“Are you kidding me, right now?” She yelled at him.
“What? I didn’t do anything.” He replied, trying to hold his laughter in.
“Really, Steve?” Veronica frowned and he shrugged, jokingly, but she didn’t find it funny.
“Come on, It was not like I did it on purpose.” He said in his
defense.
“But you could have done it somewhere else! Why did it have to
be my face?” Megan snapped at him.
“You could have spat the water back in the cup or spat it on the
ground, or better still, swallowed it, but no, you decided to
throw it in my face!” She continued, angrily but there was
something about the way she was talking that was so amusing.
“I’m sorry, Megan, but like I said, it wasn’t intentional. I’m being
honest.” He replied.
Megan let out an angry sigh as she checked herself through the
camera of her phone, “Even my dress is wet. Now I look like a
crazy person.” She lamented and this time, Steve could no longer hold it in, he burst into laughter. Even Veronica was at the verge of bursting into laughter.
Chapter 63
“You know you really shouldn’t be laughing. You just did
something wrong.” Veronica said to him, trying as much as he
could not to laugh because of the way Steve was laughing.
“Just imagine.” Megan said in a clownish tone, turning to
Veronica, and at that moment, she noticed she was also trying
not to laugh.
“Are you also laughing at me?” She asked Veronica, who shook
her head, denying it.
“That’s a lie. You look like you are also finding it funny.” Megan
said and Veronica could no longer hold it in. She burst into
laughter, falling back into the chair.
“Vee!” Megan exclaimed dramatically.
Truly, the moment was a very funny one because of the
reaction of Steve to what he had done, and Megan’s dramatic
utterances and reaction to what had happened to her. If any
other person was there at that moment, they would have been
rolling on the floor, laughing because Megan sounded like a
clown with the way she was talking and the way she actually
looked.
“I can’t believe you both, right now.” She yelled at them with a
funny tone, still.
Chapter 63
“Can you please stop that, Megan?” Steve begged, jokingly.
“What?” Megan snapped, glaring at him.
“You know what you’re doing, Megan. This is not the first time
you’re doing it.
“You mean this.” Megan said again in that funny tone and they
all began to laugh, with each person’s eyes welled up with tears
due to extreme laughter.
After a loud moment of hearty laughter, Steve’s phone rang and
seeing the caller ID, he placed his finger on his lips, signaling to
them to keep quiet as he announced, “It’s Beta Richard.”
