Chapter 61
“Are you sick?” Veronica and Steve asked in unison.
“What happened? Are you okay?” Veronica asked further, her
face filled with concern.
“Guys, calm down. I’m not sick.” Megan said with a slight smile.
“What do you mean? Then why did you go to the hospital?”
Steve queried, giving her no space to reply.
“Are you going to calm down, and let me explain or what?” She
rolled her eyes at him.
“Please, I think you should just let her tell us what happened.”
Veronica said, with her calm voice.
“Yes, thank you, Vee.” She uttered in agreement with Veronica.
She then turned to Steve, “You heard her. Calm down and let me
talk. Why are you always in a hurry? Huh!” She flashed her
tongue at him and Veronica laughed.
“Fine. Explain. We’re all ears.” Steve said with a frown.
“So I went to see Trey.” She revealed, shocking both Steve and
Chapter 61
Veronica.
“You did what?” Steve sat up, he couldn’t believe his ears.
“Please calm down and let me explain.” She quickly said as she
realized he wasn’t taking the news well.
She expected his reaction because of his relationship with Trey
and so she wasn’t too surprised with the way he was acting.
“Explain? Explain what? How could you?” He exploded, his tone
showing a high level of displeasure.
“After everything that bastard caused, how can you say you
went to see him?” He demanded, his words spilling out furiously.
What did you do that for? Why would you even do such a
thing?” He continued, shaking his head as his anger brewed.
She got up and approached him, but before she could get to him, he sprung up from his seat.
“Don’t touch me.” He said, angrily, as she reached her hand
towards him. “How could you betray me like that?”
She took a deep breath as she tried to compose herself amidst
Steve’s outburst.
“I know this isn’t easy to hear, but please listen. Please. I didn’t go
Chapter 61
there to betray you or reopen old wounds. I promise you.” She said, assuring him of her intentions.
He scoffed, “And you expect me to believe that? Really, Megan?”
He asked, his voice laced with a hint of disappointment.
“But it is the truth. I’m very honest.” She insisted, trying to face
him as he was still paving angrily, but he gently nudged her out
of his way.
“That bastard!” He muttered angrily, “I’ll make sure to squeeze
the life out of him whenever i-”
“No, please. He didn’t do anything wrong. Just avoid him.” She
interrupted him, trying as much as she could not to lose her
temper too because of his accusations.
“Oh, so you’re already defending him now? You’re taking sides
with him already? Wow. Just wow.” He said, unable to believe
that Megan was taking sides with his sworn enemy.
“No, I’m not defending him. I’m just trying to explain to you why
I felt the need to see him.” She tried to explain in a calming
gesture, but Steve didn’t give room for that. He kept insisting
that she betrayed him, and her actions were intentional.
He felt betrayed that Megan went to see Trey when he was
locked up because of the same person. Veronica, on the other
Chapter 61
hand, remained sitted, looking confused, because she didn’t
understand how something that could have been a minor conversation, blew out of proportion in such a short moment, causing such misunderstanding.
“That is exactly what you’re doing. Defending him and I can’t
even believe you right now.” He insisted and this time she began
to feel misunderstood.
“Can you please stop this! I’m not taking sides with anyone. If you’ll just calm down and hear me out!” She snapped, raising her
voice as anger began to build up within her.
“What is wrong with you? I’m trying to explain what actually
happened but you’re here saying all sort of things and tagging
me as what I am not. What the hell is this, Steve? Since when did
you start doubting me?” She yelled at him, obviously pained by
his actions towards her.
“Since you decided to go behind my back to visit that crazy
bastard!” He snapped at her.
Veronica knew that if she didn’t do something about it, they
would keep at it and it might just cause a rift between the both of them that might be impossible to mend, if they continued that
way.
She immediately got up and cleared her throat loudly, calling
Chapter 61
their attention to her.
“Guys please, can we please take a break and calm down? Let’s
not escalate this whole thing. Please.” She suggested, her tone
firm, but gentle at the same time.
Megan, who was still angry, took her seat beside Veronica.
Steve’s scowl deepened as he refused, “No, before we can settle
this, she has to tell me why she decided to see him.”
“Okay, she’ll tell you, but can you please calm down first?” She
asked with a calm tone.
Thankfully, he listened, but didn’t stop pacing.
“Can you sit, please Steve?” She asked softly.
He hesitated for a short moment, but Veronica’s eyes on him did
a thing to him and then took his seat, still glaring at Megan.
“Thank you.” She said as soon as Steve sat down.
“I think this might just be a misunderstanding because I don’t
think Megan would betray you.” She began, “If she went to see
Trey at the hospital, I feel like she must have definitely had a
reason why she did that and it wasn’t to hurt you in any way.”
She continued.
Chapter 61
“Am I right, Megan?” She asked, turning to Megan, who nodded
in agreement.
“Then tell her to tell me what actually happened. Why did you
go to him?” Steve said.
“You know, I really don’t understand why you’re dragging this
issue and acting this way.” Megan suddenly snapped again,
facing Steve.
“Really?” He said, glaring at her.
“Yes, really!” She said, raising her voice. “I don’t know what has-
“Please, Megan.” Veronica gently interrupted her, grabbing her
hand gently, making her keep quiet.
“Okay, can you please tell us what happened?” Veronica said,
ensuring her tone was as calm as possible.
“So, like I said earlier, I planned to come here to keep you
company because i didn’t know he was going to be back today.”
Megan began to explain.
“Yes, that’s right.” Veronica commented, while Steve remained
quiet.
“Then my dad who had been out since morning came back and informed me that Trey was going to be discharged from the
Chapter 61
hospital today and that he went to see him. He said the doctor
said he was now perfectly fine, and his nose had also healed just
fine in the past few weeks and so he would be discharged
today.” She explained further.
“But what caught my attention was the fact that my dad also
said that while he was still at the hospital, Trey had a lot to say
to everyone who came to visit him about Steve.” She then
paused and glared at Steve, who was listening carefully.
She continued, “He said he was pushing a kind of narrative, that
he was innocent and that Steve wounded him unprovoked.”
“What?!” Steve exclaimed, unable to believe his ears. “That
bastard.” He muttered with clenched fists.
ELE
“Knowing Trey and how well he knows how to throw a pity
party and turn all odds in his favour, cooking up lies, I decided to
go and see him so as to warn him to desist from spreading
slanderous comments and every other untrue nonsense he was
spewing about Steve, else, he was going to get himself in trouble
soon.” She explained and Steve was surprised.
“Wait, you really said that?” Steve asked, his anger completely
subsided as he eased up in his chair, but Megan looked away.
With a serious look on her face, Megan said, “Stop the fase
information you’re spreading about Steve, else, you’ll have
Chapter 61
yourself to blame. It seems your nose is fine now, but you might
have to come back to the hospital soon if you don’t desist from
these false allegations, because I’ll personally see to it that
another part of your body is broken beyond fixing.”
“Those were my exact words.” She said and looked at Steve and
Veronica who had their mouths open in shock.
“Y.. You actually said all o.. of that?” Veronica asked, stuttering.
“Yes, I did.” She answered, confidently.
“Wow. I’m quite speechless, honestly.” Veronica uttered, still
looking a bit shocked at Megan’s words.
“But did you mean everything you said?” Veronica asked her,
trying to know if they were empty threats.
“Of course I did. No one messes with my friends.” Megan said
firmly, and Veronica nodded gently.
Truly, she was shocked and at the same time, amazed at the
lengths in which Megan was willing to go if anyone messed with
her best friend, Steve.
Now turning to Steve who had suddenly become speechless,
Veronica, with a frown asked him, “Now can you see that you
were wrong with your accusation?”
Chapter 61
“She was trying to look out for you, yet you didn’t trust her and
didn’t even allow her to explain herself. I don’t think that’s too
good, considering how long you’ve been friends for and I think
that she deserves an apology.” Veronica said, and Steve nodded
gently.
“I agree.” He said and then turned to Megan, “I spoke like a jerk. I
shouldn’t have spoken to you in that manner. I should have
trusted you and I’m sincerely sorry.” He apologized, but Megan
paid him no attention as she stubbornly looked away.
“Come on, Megan. He has apologized. Please forgive him.”
Veronica pleaded to her on Steve’s behalf, but Megan still
remained unmoved.
Steve then got up and came to crouch in front of her, “I
apologize. You know you’re my best friend. I’m sorry.” He
apologized to her.
“You knew that, yet you didn’t care to listen to me when I tried
to explain things to you.” She snapped at him.
“I’m sorry.” He said again and this time Veronica nugged her
gently on the side and she smiled.
“Does this mean I’m forgiven?” Steve asked happily.
“Yes, but you have Veronica to thank for that. If it wasn’t for
Chapter 61
her, I wouldn’t have listened to you.” Megan said and Veronica
laughed.
“Okay, thank you, Veronica.” Steve said and winked playfully at her. Then they all laughed, but their moment was cut short by a
knock on the door.
“Ugh!” Steve grunted. “Who is that now?”
“Yeah, I wonder who that is.” Megan said and they all exchanged
glances at each other.
Steve got up and made his way out of the room, while Veronica
and Megan stood at the door, where they could slightly hear
what who was at the door was saying.
“Who is there?” Steve asked, as he approached the main
entrance.
A loud voice replied from outside the house, “It’s the guards, sir.
The Alpha has requested your presence in the palace
immediately.”
