Chapter 16
The man’s hands trembled as he saw the blood on Woodrow’s
mouth and the floor.
“I’ll take you to the hospital now, Mr. Hartwell.”
He helped Woodrow to leave.
Kaneeta’s gaze
fell upon the blood on the floor, and she couldn’t
help but wonder.
Woodrow’s self–control was astonishing–he held out against
the drug till he coughed up blood.
Exactly what kind of man was he?
She went back to the private room, where the door was guarded
by Woodrow’s black–clad bodyguards.
Frankie, Alan, and the others sat inside, all looking baffled.
At the sight of her, Frankie immediately asked, “Ms. Drayton, you’re finally back. What’s going on?”
Frankie was truly stunned. While drinking, Woodrow had suddenly left the private room, and then Edmund finally

couldn’t help but puke violently. After receiving a call, Edmund
had left, too, saying it was urgent.
He and the rest had waited for quite a while, but neither
Edmund nor Woodrow came back. Then these bodyguards
showed up, put all the drinks and food away, not even leaving
those empty bottles, glasses, and plates behind.
So, what exactly had happened?
Since it involved Woodrow, Kaneeta didn’t explain much and
just gave them a few reassuring words. Soon, one of the
bodyguards came to her, asking nicely for her to leave.
Maybe they had been instructed to keep her away from this
mess.
She said bye to Frankie and the others and then left.
As she walked out of the restaurant and was about to hail a cab, Nyasia’s Instagram update caught her eye.
Nyasia had posted two photos. One was her wrist, wrapped in
thick bandages, and the other was a man’s profile as he was peeling an apple for her.
It was Edmund.
Chapter 16:
The caption was, “As long as you’re with me.”
Judging from the background, they were in the hospital.
Kaneeta now knew why Edmund had left so abruptly, even though he’d been vomiting so violently.
Nyasia had tried to kill herself.
Their little drama didn’t concern her at all. She soon got into a
cab, went back to her place, took a shower, and was about to get some proper sleep.
But, after she closed her eyes, Woodrow’s restrained, self-
controlled frown suddenly surfaced in her mind.
The sweat kept dripping down his face…
She wanted to call his subordinate to ask how he was doing
now, but found it inappropriate.
Picking up her phone, she saw nothing new from Woodrow on Instagram.
Since he had been sent to the hospital already, maybe there was nothing to worry about.
Even so, she was still worried. She tossed and turned before finally falling into a fitful sleep.
Chapter 16
The next morning, she received a call from Woodrow’s
subordinate not long after she got up.
“Ms. Drayton, could you come to the hospital?”
She grew nervous at once. “Is … Mr. Hartwell alright?”
“Yes, he is. I was just wondering if you could come see him at the hospital.”
She agreed.
She felt sorry for what had happened to Woodrow, being drugged like this. Besides, he had indeed helped her through that terrible stomachache when she had been completely helpless. It was only right if she paid him a visit.
To her surprise, just as she arrived at the hospital, she bumped into Edmund and Nyasia, who were stepping out.
Edmund’s face was a little pale as he carefully held Nyasia in his arms, asking her gently how she was feeling.
“Ms. Drayton?” Nyasia spotted her first. “Are you here to see me?”
“Don’t flatter yourself, Kaneeta said icily.
Not wanting to waste another second on them

walk into the hospital.
But Edmund stopped her, his expression darkening. “Neeta,
didn’t you see Nya’s wrist? She’s hurt and now vulnerable. How
could you treat her with such an attitude?”
Kaneeta couldn’t help but want to laugh out loud. Only a fool
like Edmund would believe Nyasia really wanted to kill herself.
Edmund grew even more displeased as he looked at the
expression on Kaneeta’s face.
“You…
Just as he was about to question her, a shrill car horn cut
through the air.
He instinctively turned around to look, only to see an out–of-
control truck hurtling right at them.
“Nya, watch out!”
