Chapter 7
Before anyone had time to process the shock, Sophia clutched her belly and let out a piercing scream.
“My stomach! Doctor! Doctor! Please save my baby!”
Maryanne was so furious that she spat out a mouthful of blood. Her eyes rolled back, and she fell completely unconscious.
Maryanne had suffered a stroke. Her face was twisted, her speech slurred, and drool streamed from her lips.
But even in such a state, lying paralyzed in bed, she insisted on uncovering the truth.
When Leopold was dragged in by the guards, his body was a mess of blood and bruises. He no longer resembled the suave Chancellor he
once was.
Still, he was the king’s appointed Chancellor. Without a royal order, no one dared to execute him outright.
Upon seeing Maryanne, he forced himself to kneel properly despite the pain.
“Princess Maryanne,” he said with forced sincerity, “I truly love your daughter and wish to marry Sophia. I beg your blessing.”
Maryanne glared at him with a crooked, fierce gaze but said nothing.
Seeing that, Leopold turned toward Sophia. “Sophia, from this day on, you are mine. Will you marry me?”
Sophia held her stomach and nodded without hesitation.
Leopold smiled with satisfaction. In his mind, he could already see the glorious future ahead, paved with power and favor.
I watched from the sidelines, clicking my tongue in mock admiration. “Mr. Beaumont is truly devoted to Her Highness. And now that she’s carrying your child, it’s a double blessing indeed.”
After examining her pulse, the doctor confirmed that Sophia had already been pregnant for three months.
Leopold’s beaming smile froze.

“What do you mean, three months?” he asked, stunned. “The princess and I only… How could the child in her belly be fine?“.
Gasps erupted throughout the hall.
So… the child wasn’t his?
Then she was pregnant with another man’s child!
“Sophia! Say something! Whose child are you carrying?” Leopold suddenly broke free from the guards‘ hold and grabbed her shoulders, roaring in fury.
Sophia’s face turned pale. She couldn’t utter a word–only shook her head frantically.
“Wretch!” Leopold slapped her so hard she collapsed to the floor.
Although Sophia was guilty, she was still a princess–and had always been spoiled. She wasn’t about to let Leopold strike her without consequence. She lashed back immediately.
“How dare you hit me!”
I stood among the crowd watching this absurd display unfold. A hint of regret stirred within me.
What a pity. If only they’d married first–let Leopold raise another man’s child for a few years, become the perfect fool–and then uncover the truth. Now that would’ve been poetic.
In my past life, Alice had followed Leopold’s orders and fed me miscarriage–inducing herbs again and again. Every time I became pregnant, I lost the child.
Outsiders said I must’ve had some disease that made me barren.

But I would never forget how Leopold had once grabbed me by the throat and snarled:
“Charlotte Thorne! If it weren’t for you meddling, I would have already married Sophia! Our child wouldn’t have had to die without a
name or status!”
“You destroyed me and Sophia–and killed our child! You’ll never be a mother! Use your children’s lives to pay for hers!”
I let out a bitter laugh.
In the end, he had killed eight of his own children-
for
the sake of a bastard whose father no one even knew.
He murdered his flesh and blood just to become a pathetic cuckold.
Ridiculous. Truly laughable.
