Chapter 3
“What?!”
The commotion exploded instantly–this was no trivial matter.
“So it wasn’t a scandal after all—but an assassin, hidden by Miss Thorne?”
“That’s treason! She should be executed!”
The Duchess, who had long despised my mother, shrieked, her voice sharp with triumph. She shoved me aside without a second thought, slamming me into the door so hard my vision blurred with stars.
“Ah! No–please, you mustn’t go inside!”
My mother burst through the crowd, trembling with fury.
“Charlotte, have you gone mad? Are you harboring a criminal?”
Looking into my mother’s furious, but still–living face, I couldn’t stop the tears from spilling down.
“Mother… please, just go. Take the ladies and leave. You mustn’t go in the forest.”
“There’s clearly something wrong inside the forest!”
Several noblewomen frowned, glancing suspiciously at the woods outside the window.
Maryanne, already boiling with anger, could hardly contain herself.
“Charlotte, you’ve got nerve. Blocking me? Guards! Summon the Royal Guard and my personal retainers! I don’t we’re going in the woods today!”
The royal guards, summoned earlier by a maid, had been waiting just outside the gates.
Upon hearing there might be an assassin within the Clair estate, they charged in without hesitation.
“Step aside, Miss Thorne,” General Courcy ordered coldly, his expression as icy as a glacier.
Lucian Courcy, Princess Sophia’s betrothed, was understandably alarmed-
scandal.
“General Courcy, please there’s no need…”
O

an assassin in his fiancée’s home? It would be a national
I raised a hand, trying to explain. But before I could finish, his voice cut through like a blade.
“Forgive me.‘
With a wave of his arm, I was thrown to the ground, covered in dust and mud. My face was smeared, my dress torn-Hooked like a beggar, not a noble lady.
The guests surged forward. Royal guards and retainers stormed into the forest outside the door,
I didn’t even know which lady stepped on me twice–blood surged into my mouth.
“Charlotte! Have you gone completely mad?” My mother knelt beside me, clutching me in horror, her tears streaming freely.
“Mother… you’re still here. That’s all that matters.”
I smiled through the pain, not arguing with her, only burying myself against her like a child. Her familiar scent calmed me.
“You’ve truly lost your senses…” she murmured, heartbroken.
Then it began-
“Ah, Leo… faster, please!”

“Kiss me here… I want more…”
A woman’s breathless moans and a man’s panting echoed from the woods beyond.
The crowd that had barged inside froze as one. Time seemed to stop.
The air was thick with lust.
Young maidens blushed bright red and fled, covering their ears in embarrassment.
“In broad daylight… how obscene!”
“Whores and scoundrels, rutting like animals–who could it be?”
Some of the noblewomen exchanged glances, eyes glittering with barely hidden amusement as they looked at Maryanne.
Such incidents–maids and guards secretly falling for one another- were not uncommon in poorly managed estates.
But for it to happen at Clair Manor, no less?
It spoke volumes of Maryanne’s management lack of discipline and control.
at dawned on them that perhaps Miss Thorne had tried to stop them earlier to save
Marya face.
A pity Maryanne had not taken the hint. Now she would pay the price in shame.
A few ladies exchanged subtle, knowing looks.
Maryanne’s face turned the color of storm clouds.

General Courcy’s face darkened like thunder. For this to nappen on sancee’s estate–his pride could not bear it.
With one stroke of his sword, he slashed down the saplings obscuring the view.
CRACK.
Branches fell in a heap.
What was revealed was far worse than anyone imagined—
Not just a man and a woman in carnal embrace…
But two women and one man–an orgy in the forest.
