Chapter 25 Really That Great?
Jackson’s words were vague and disjointed, leaving her completely confused. She thought about it for a while, but still couldn’t make sense of what he meant.
After Jackson left, she packed his dirty clothes into the paper bag. As she bent down to pick up the room key from the coffee table, she froze.
Right next to the room key was her phone.
‘So that’s what Jackson had been referring to.‘
Her face paled. ‘Has Cordell noticed too?‘
She stayed in the room for a while, restless, not returning to the party hall. Instead, she took the elevator down to the parking garage and had Rubin drive her home.
As soon as the car started, her phone rang. It was a number she didn’t have saved.
The number wasn’t unfamiliar. In fact, it was very familiar.
She hesitated for a moment before answering. Before she could say anything, Cordell’s voice came through, soft and calm, calling her name

before asking, “Where are you?”
She rested her head against her hand, gazing out at the neon lights flashing by outside. Perhaps it was the alcohol, but her eyes felt hazy. “I’m in the car.”
His tone was skeptical. “In the car?”
She replied indifferently, “I drank too much, feeling a bit off. I’m heading home. Please let my parents and grandfather know I’m fine.”
“Alright, give your phone to Rubin so I can speak with him.”
Elaine knew exactly what he was doing—he was trying to confirm if she was telling the truth.
She handed the phone to Rubin, who was driving with one hand. He glanced at the screen, but all he saw was a string of numbers he didn’t recognize. Holding the phone to his ear, he cautiously said, “Yes, sir?”
Cordell spoke on the other end, and Rubin listened quietly. After a minute or so, he replied respectfully, “Got it, Mr. Decker. I’ve been driving for the Valentine family for over ten years, so you can rest assured.”
After hanging up, Rubin returned the phone to Elaine. She took it casually, asking, “What did he say?”

Rubin kept his eyes on the road, smiling as he replied, “Mr. Decker insisted I be extra careful while driving tonight. He also asked me to tell Olivia to make you some coffee when we get home, with a bit of sugar in it. He said it’s your usual preference.”
He paused, then added, “Stacy is really lucky to have married Mr. Decker.”
Elaine’s breath caught for a moment. She asked, almost offhandedly, “Is he really that great?”
“Mr. Decker is a wonderful man,” Rubin said enthusiastically. “Not only is he wealthy and influential, but he’s also charming. So many women in Aleshire envy Stacy, and wish they could marry him. But he doesn’t care about anyone else–he’s so devoted to Stacy. They are inseparable.”
When he said “inseparable,” something sharp seemed to pierce her heart.
Rubin didn’t notice the change in her expression. Oblivious, he continued, “When Stacy was pregnant, Mr. Decker was always out late with business events. He was worried she’d be lonely, so he sent her abroad to rest during the pregnancy. He visited whenever he could, and even Marcelo said she married the right man…”
She listened quietly, her gaze fixed on the trees outside, decorated with colorful lights.

The red and green lights blinked endlessly, rushing by as the car sped on, fading into small dots behind them.
Rubin noticed her silence through the rearview mirror and assumed she was getting annoyed with him. He gave an awkward chuckle.
“Ms. Valentine, I’m sure you’ll marry someone as great as Mr. Decker someday.”
