Chapter 22 Well Prepared
She immediately stopped in her tracks, her lips puckering in a pout. “Mr. Mason, I didn’t mean to…”
Marcelo, hearing the commotion, stepped forward. When he saw the stain on Jackson’s clothes and the woman still apologizing profusely, he quickly understood what had happened.
As the host, he felt deeply apologetic. “Mr. Mason, please head to the guest room upstairs and rest for a bit. I’ll have someone bring you a change of clothes right away.”
Although Marcelo was older than Jackson, the Mason family held considerable power and wealth in Aleshire, so he knew he had to be extra careful. Despite his apology, his tone wasn’t overly deferential, as he was still mindful of his position.
Elaine set her wine glass down and stepped forward. Before she could make sense of the situation, Marcelo spoke again, “Elaine, please take Mr. Mason to the guest room.”
She nodded, distracted, and glanced at Jackson’s clothes. She made a simple gesture with her hand. “Mr. Mason, this way, please.”
Jackson followed her out of the party hall. She led the way, quickly pressing the elevator button.

The elevator was already on their floor, and once she pressed the button, the doors slid open.
They both stepped inside. She pressed the button to go up, and the doors closed, the elevator moving smoothly upward.
Neither of them said a word. She stole a quick glance at Jackson.
While his face remained as calm and unreadable as ever, there was a subtle coldness in his eyes.
She considered breaking the silence with some conversation to ease the tension, but despite their past, they weren’t exactly close, and she couldn’t think of anything suitable to say.
After their brief encounter, she’d done some online research about Jackson, so she had a basic understanding of him.
Right now, it was clear he was in a bad mood. She knew that if she spoke up carelessly, she might make things worse, and she wasn’t eager to become the target of his frustration.
She had no intention of being anyone’s emotional punching bag.
The elevator dinged, and the doors opened. They both stepped out, one after the other.

At the guest room door, she swiped the key card, and after a soft click. she turned the doorknob and stepped aside, allowing Jackson to enter first
“Mr. Mason, go ahead and take a shower. I’ll have the clothes sent up soon.”
As she spoke, she entered the bathroom to check the showerhead.
While the hotel wasn’t likely to make such a basic mistake, she wanted to be thorough just in case.
When she came back out, she saw Jackson on the phone, holding it to his ear. She quietly stood by, waiting.
He was calling his assistant, Cyrus, but the line was busy. He dialed again, but it was still engaged.
Noticing his frown, Elaine asked. “What’s wrong?”
Jackson shrugged off his jacket and tossed it onto the sofa, pulling out his car keys and handing them to her.
“There’s a spare set of clothes in my car. Go get them.”
“Okay.” She took the keys. Though she wasn’t his subordinate, she was the host tonight.

Besides, considering their past, it didn’t feel out of place for her to do this for him.
Chapter 22 Well Prepared
She grabbed the keys and was about to leave when she realized she’d be back soon–Jackson would likely be in the shower for a while, and no one else would be there to open the door for her. So, she returned to grab the room key.
As she stepped out of the room, she made sure to close the door behind her, then took the elevator down to the parking garage.
She had seen Jackson’s car before and remembered the license plate, so it wasn’t hard to find.
She searched the backseat but found nothing.
Then, she opened the trunk and found a paper bag inside.
She opened it to reveal a full set of spare clothes: a suit jacket, shirt, and trousers–well–prepared indeed.
